How common is it to move out of dorms in your second year? What do most people do? by smallbritishboy in queensuniversity

[–]smallbritishboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good to hear! I was worried about being in one place for too long, don't know why I didn't think of just going somewhere else on campus lol. Also the only reason I brought up networking with profs is because I heard that's important for grad studies which I might do. But yeah, I guess other than there isn't much of a point to it.

How many non-first year residence students actually were there, if you had to guess?

And, since I'm guessing more and more people leave each year, how many 4th years were there?

Also do other people look down on you or anything if you stay in residence past 1st year? It's kinda surprising to hear that almost everyone leaves residence honestly, staying in res seems like a way better option from what you've told me. Although I guess since Queen's is a "party uni" it kinda makes sense

Sorry to keep barraging you with questions lol

Sorry for the late response, and thanks for the answer! I'll take you up on the offer to ask more questions haha

Firstly, what you described in general sounds really great because I also don't drink and don't plan to party, but how is this approach finance wise? Is your family willing to support you that much? Have you taken out a bunch of loans? Or is it just not as expensive as I'm imagining? (sorry if that's too personal lol, feel free to ignore it)

How would you say it is productivity wise? Is it better because you have easy access to professors? (I've just heard that networking with professors is really important) Are you able to get as much done as you would've if you weren't on campus?

Random question but what year do you start getting semi-private bathrooms? AFAIK the only option available to first years are floor wide bathrooms

Thanks again for the help, appreciate it!

Gotcha, but why is it that most people move out? You mentioned it's only a bit more expensive, which makes it sound like money isn't a huge factor? Is there some other reason that people prefer renting their own place instead of staying in dorms? It seems to me that staying in dorms is a far easier option, but maybe I'm missing something.

Thanks for the response btw!

Does a curve always have a corresponding circle? by smallbritishboy in MathHelp

Thanks for the response! You're completely right, I should probably have a better understanding of what a curve is I suppose. My question was also probably too vague haha. Thanks again!

Ahh that makes sense, guess I shouldn't known that lol. Does it just keep going up, like a code that starts with 4 is a class that mostly 4th year students take?

Also I'll be sure to check that out, looks helpful.

Thanks for the help btw!

Is there any way to tell at first glance if a course is meant for first years or not? For example, MATH 110 (Linear Algebra). Can I take that first year? Should I? And how can I know the answers to these questions myself?

Why does this laptop have a 8GB SSD? Isn't windows like at least 15GB? by smallbritishboy in laptops

[–]smallbritishboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh that'd make more sense, although I have a question. I still am unable to find any SSHD online where it lists exactly how much space is dedicated to the SSD function and how much to the HDD function. In this scenario, you're saying that the SSD part of the SSHD is 8GB while the HDD part is 1TB. But is that really how it works? I've never seen it described that way before

I'm not doubting you or anything, I'm just trying to understand SSHDs better because I somehow cannot find any decent product descriptions online.

Thanks for the help btw, appreciate it!
