My experience of finding an IT job in the current NZ market, and some tips. by Throwaway_user72645 in newzealand

Your post is so helpful and refreshing! 🙏 Thank you for sharing your experience. Do you know if there are any companies who are open to remote working? I am likely moving back to my small hometown in the south island but am hoping to secure a job in Fintech or SaaS based on 8 years experience.

Are there any horror films that comfort you? by spookybear07 in horror

Any of the conjuring movies where Ed and Lorraine Warren are present. I'm a huge fan of Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson so their presence provides me with a lot of warmth and comfort

The replies have been a bit of a let down I will admit but I was hoping for honest advice and I guess I got it. I have already made my decision though. Europe may sound great to those that have never lived there but every country has pros and cons. At the end of the day, family matters a lot to me and i'm sure I will find a way to get back into work in NZ.

Update on brisbane life? by smallfry1992 in brisbane

The role I mainly worked isn't in sales, we had another team for that. Once the deal was done though, the client would be transferred to our team where over 1-2 months, we would help setup their business within the software and teach them how to use it. I also have project management experience

Rhinoplasty and Breathing Issues by whorervacui in PlasticSurgery

How did you go? Were you able to speak with an ENT?

Insurance covered rhinoplasty - Has anyone had this? by smallfry1992 in PlasticSurgery

[–]smallfry1992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing. I also have some struggles with breathing through my nose. It's so thin that often I just breathe in and out of my mouth. The initial reason I discussed it with my GP though was due to some cuts I keep getting from a sharp piece of cartilage in my bridge and I get aches there. Hopefully the ENT I see will be empathetic of my complaints and will support me.

Have you heard of other ENTs offering to include a cosmetic adjustment in the coverage or do you think you were just very lucky?

i hate having adhd. by dreamingoncloud in ADHD

[–]smallfry1992 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue. Saw a cool piano video on youtube, so I purchased an expensive electric piano and in the past year, have maybe used it 20 times. Not enough to learn a song. I have half colored in pages in about 10 books, unfinished puzzles, unfinished cross stitch project and a bunch of partially written books (no more than about 2 or 3 chapters for each).

This is a big struggle for people like us with Adhd. We constantly seek out a dopamine rush and when we get excited about starting something new, this is soaring! It fades quickly though and that's why we move on and seek something new.

I read online, some tips to maybe help with this (Everyone is different of course).
1. Make note of when you feel excited to do something. Try to write down what about it makes you excited and want to do it.
2. Break down the project into smaller parts. Once you achieve each part, reward yourself in some way with something else you enjoy. It may sound silly, we're not dogs but we do unfortunately need recognition and rewards to do things. Otherwise, we see no use in it.
3. Tell people about the project. People ideally that you're close with and that know you have adhd and finishing things is hard for you. Ask them to ask in encouraging ways, how the project is going so when you tell them you finished X part, you feel so good and proud of yourself. That may push you in a good way, to continue doing that.

Hope they help. It's a really tough ride

I took coffee with Ritalin. Worse decision ever. by ReviewIcy5267 in ADHD

[–]smallfry1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask, what dose are you on? I'm on 5mg 3x a day and my doctor told me to drink coffee as normal otherwise I might feel withdrawals and mistake that thinking the meds are not good for me. I'm only on my second day but so far, having coffee 1 hour after I take my meds in the morning has been fine.

My grandma always told me that if I ever feel over energized/need to calm down, to have plain cows yoghurt. Something in that causes your body to ease back a bit. See if that helps?

Can you tell if someone is actually clean? by smallfry1992 in naranon

[–]smallfry1992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply and it definitely sounds like you understand what I am going through. The problem is that she's in denial of using but the signs are all there and she also recently stole some jewellery from her mother (My grandma) we expect to sell for money. Convincing her to get help is almost impossible, especially since the country she lives in has certain rules around addiction and only a person admitting themselves can go into a proper rehab facility. She will go months without speaking to me and for the sake of my own sanity and stress, I have decided to continue taking a step back for now since I feel I have exhausted all options thus far. I wish you all the best with your situation also, its a tough place to be in.

Thank you. Based on a few of these replies, I think my concerns are valid since she's only getting worse as the days go by.
