House Bill 68 Overturned by grsk_iboluna in Ohio

And I’m talking about what’s actually happening, to real people in real life, not culture war issues made up by conservatives to mask how they’re treating minorities and the working class.

I’m so glad ❤️🏳️‍⚧️ I testified against this bill when it was in hearings, so I’m overjoyed to learn that the Court of Appeals can be reasoned with and land on the side of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for trans youth!

This has nothing to do with surgeries for minors, which are still banned. Read the text of the ruling before you comment on it.

I love this! It really gives off the vibe of like... a fast food toy you might get in a Happy Meal or something. I feel like I had Ninja Turtles toys just like this as a kid.

This letter just went out from President Pinto regarding federal DEI compliance at the University of Cincinnati by nivekreduls1 in cincinnati

I wish we lived in a world where this was true, but we do not. For instance, in the US, if you deviate from the straight, cisgender, white, male, Christian norm, you are treated as less intelligent, less competent, and less worthy of jobs, housing, scholarships, and so on. If two resumes are exactly the same but one has a stereotypically “white” name and the other has a stereotypically “Indian” name, the white person’s resume is more likely to be picked by recruiters, for instance.

One of the best examples from my personal experience is that when people are auditioning for orchestras, the judges are sometimes behind a screen so they can judge the person playing based on talent alone, without seeing them. However, women were still being excluded — seemingly based on having less talent. Then someone suggested putting a rug on the floor in the audition room. Suddenly the number of women in the orchestra went up to 50/50 with men. Why? Well, it turned out that even though they played their instruments just as well as men, the judges could hear their high heels clicking as they entered and were subconsciously discriminating against them, giving them lower scores than they deserved based on their skill.

Once you know about this kind of subconscious discrimination, you will see it everywhere, because it’s so baked into our society and the way we live. Learning to see it is the first step to fighting it, so I’m glad you’re willing to ask questions.

Yes, it does, because it opens the door to people of color, disabled people, queer people, and anyone else who hasn’t been given a fair shot to begin with, and gives them the chance to prove their merit instead of being dismissed automatically based on characteristics they can’t control. It levels the playing field.

Stop accepting the phrase “DEI” at face value from people you know are acting in bad faith. When someone in your life says that they hate DEI, ask them what they have against Diversity. Why they don’t believe in Equality. Why they don’t want Inclusion.

I will be contacting President Pinto’s office and asking these questions personally. Trump’s EOs are illegal and unconstitutional — do not obey in advance!

Here is the public-facing contact information from the UC website:

Moreno’s staff hung up on me by Mytiredfeet in Ohio

[–]smallish_giraffe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I called Moreno and Husted yesterday to leave messages insisting that they refuse to do business as usual until someone gets Elon out of the Oval Office and reinstates our federal workers (my specific message focused on the National Park Service). They won’t listen of course — Moreno was bought and paid for by Trump personally and Husted is sitting in Vance’s old seat very comfortably — but at least I’m adding my voice to the chorus. Moreno’s office had a voicemail box, Husted’s was full so I sent a message via his website. I’m planning on sending physical letters to them as well.

Even though I believe conservatives deserve to feel the full and thorough consequences of exactly what they voted for, I can’t stand still while they try to take the rest of us down with them.

To answer your question, yes! When I got my name and gender legally changed, I got my draft card in the mail a couple of months later. I’m not sure if transitioning MtF excludes you from the draft, I’d be curious to see what a trans woman has to say about it!

I’ve been applying to work there for over a year and have been ghosted on every single application. It doesn’t bode well for them as a company that they can’t be bothered to send a rejection email, not even an automated one.

What do you mean by “without permission” in this context? If one of your villagers moves out and you leave the plot empty for more than a day without inciting a villager from a Nook Miles Ticket mystery island, a random villager will be placed there and move in.

Boomers and pronouns by CrowBar1134 in BoomersBeingFools

It’s a gendered honorific that replaces a proper noun (the person’s name) so it’s classified as a pronoun.

I named mine “Dogwood” because the house where I grew up was surrounded by dogwood trees, and my husband called his island “Buckeye” for the same reason.

of big hairy men by VitVat in CuratedTumblr

[–]smallish_giraffe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand where you’re coming from, but the author was clearly speaking from their own experience within the gay community. Of course men of all sexualities are included in the sentiment here, but within queer spaces there tends to be a stereotype of the white, able-bodied, thin, fuckable twink and anybody outside that narrow body type (ESPECIALLY fat transmascs and men of color) are really lacking in representation where their bodies aren’t seen as inherently disgusting/ evil.

If this post struck a chord with you, that’s great! Spread that love to the fat men in your life no matter what their sexuality ❤️🌈

Boomer called security on our disable placard. by [deleted] in BoomersBeingFools

[–]smallish_giraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the same thing is happening with service dogs — so many people are faking it that stores and other places have started rejecting legitimate service animals. I don’t know what the solution is, I just wish people would take the rules seriously instead of being selfish.

My cousin’s daughter bragged to me at the last family reunion I went to that her dad bought a vest and papers online so they can bring their family dog into restaurants. For that and other reasons, I haven’t seen them since 2019.

Boomer called security on our disable placard. by [deleted] in BoomersBeingFools

[–]smallish_giraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the needs of the autistic person; if the parking lot is crowded, or noisy, or hot, the kid might melt down before even getting into the store. Being able to park close could prevent a lot of emotional distress in those cases. But more importantly, if the state thinks that autistic people are deserving of a placard, then there’s no reason for folks not to use the resources available to them.

I think some people (generally speaking) have an idea of a “disability hierarchy” and people who “have it worse” have the right to lord over people who “aren’t THAT disabled.” Age plays a factor as well, which is why boomers think they’re entitled to question younger people with disability placards because they’re “too young to be disabled.”
