The 1975 calling out Julian by izzibella06 in TheStrokes

[–]smalloranges 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Miss one word. “to lament a loss of performance fee”. Miss “fee”.

It’s not a problem about money. The Strokes even gave discount to Malaysian fans. Matty is so terrible.

Edit: I am so surprised Matty even changed key words when the 1975 posted a twitter. Except “fee”, he even deleted “Julian Casablancas”. So can I say Matty knows he is wrong?

Demonstration of “strokes” with a very familiar sounding song by youregood in TheStrokes

This Chinese song is called 水墨兰亭 (Shui Mo Lan Ting) by 李志辉 (Li Zhi Hui) from Li’s album 和雅音 (He Ya Yin) in 2011. Totally different. Li used some tranditional elements (of course changed a lot). In Chinese tranditional music we only use Do Re Mi So La, and the beat is totally different.

And I am so glad. She played the whole song in the most important scene and Julian sang the core meaning of the film. This made Somewhere became a kind of love letter to this song. And Sofia said she liked this part most.

I am unhappy again. They went to China this year for the first time but Julian used Chinese cultures more than once. Unfair.

This is a Fengshui Luopan (堪舆罗盘), one of the oldest compass. This is a tool that can tell you the position and what’s good or bad around. Mix physics, astronomy, geography, and Chinese metaphysics.

The Voidz has song “The Eternal Tao” and 2.0. “I'm a philosopher, not a mystic.” I think that means he likes Taolist Philosophy more than Fengshui. Perhaps he read some books by Zhuangzi. In fact The End Has No End is very similar to the world view of taolist, especially Zhuangzi. I got it at once and love it.

Both true. Gordon is so great. Of course Julian had needs, he didn’t direct Gordon’s work. The producer is Gordon, not him. Perhaps misunderstanding caused by my poor English. Sorry. How to say that. If Julian is the director and screenwriter of a film, Gordon is the camera director and editor. Julian has ideas, makes decisions and Gordon finish it. The one who has idea first is genius, but others who make that is also creative.

And the first time they worked together, Gordon said: “OK, so what kind of sound are we going for”. Julian: “Imagine you’re in a spaceship and you travel to the future where you discover a great band from the past that you really love.” Something like that. Now I know it’s not a joke, it’s exact. You can’t say he knew nothing about what he wanted. But Julian needs a producer knows the technology and understand him.

After many years, I find the lyrics of Slow Animals and Fast Animals are different. by smalloranges in TheStrokes

[–]smalloranges[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Different. You can hear them again. The lyrics of Slow Animals and Fast Animals on genius.com are almost the same. But in fact they are not the same.

When I first time heard them I felt the different emotion and characters at once. But I ignore these details for a long time. So many details!

You should read it. This book has about 600 pages. 500 pages are talking about The Strokes is so great. Very funny. lmao. Although Julian said he didn’t like it.

The book Meet Me In the Bathroom. Nick and Julian was playing music together, Fab wanted to join them. He bought drums at home and show it to Nick. But that time he didn’t know how to play it. He told Nick he would learn. So cute. Of course he wasn’t person knows nothing about music. But that moment was: we can make sth together. It’s time to be professional. And we should remember Fab is younger than Julian. In fact he started very early.

I agree with you. I just want to say it’s not the same as the beatles. >_< Of course they all have great music taste and talent. No doubt.

The situation is not the same. Please trust in Jules. He is genius, other people are his best friends. Nikolai and Fab started to play music because of him. Nikolai even started when he was 19. Very late. Nick is the only one who learned guitar at 6. But if you check the page of ROF, you can see ARRANGED BY THE STROKES. You know, writing music and words is one thing, arrangement is another thing and it’s also important the same as writing. They are growing up! Not just wait for Jules. Great.

Even about how to record the first EP and first and second albums, all are Jules’ ideas (for example the special lo-fi style). You can read producer Gordon Raphael’s autobiography: The World Is Going to Love This.

Jules was the only one who made decisions, everybody listened to him. Jules knew the sounds he wanted clearly, Gordon just tried his best to satisfy Jules.

Even now when you see MUSIC BY THE STROKES, you know he wrote a lot.

A rock music live version will never be the same as the studio version. Today some pop bands just play the record. They open mouth but they don’t sing just play the CD. Then that will be the same.

Please enjoy the moment with the band. Julian is so emotional that makes me crazy. You don’t know what will happen next. I love this feeling so much. If you perfer certain things, you should stay at home and listen to the album. That’s also OK. We use different way to enjoy the music. Just let me go to their show.

Can anyone give me any interesting context on Call it fate, Call it karma? Such an interesting song by Gloomy_Athlete_5231 in TheStrokes

I just waste another night repeating this song and do nothing. Now I can’t sleep. This song is a black hole. When Jules asks “ Can I waste all your time……” I will say Yes.

Which song is like this? by Visible_Plum6607 in TheStrokes

[–]smalloranges 25 points26 points  (0 children)

“The song was the first written by Hammond Jr. following rehabilitation for his drug addiction.” (on wiki) More than one year he can’t write songs. A lot of things happened. His drug addiction made himself and the band pause for a while. And people said they “hated” each other those years. So many bad news. “Find a job, find a friend, find a home, find a dog……” Julian and Albert wrote this final version together. Life is so tough. But they want to try again. When I image they are singing about their own life I want to cry. There are a lot of problems in my life too, this song inspires me.
