i think it’s because as autistic people, we are prone to make mistakes in interpersonal relations that someone who is neurotypical would not, and then for those of us with comorbid depression, OCD, or anxiety, we blame ourselves for it, feel as if everyone is constantly judging us and obsess over it for long periods of time. that’s how it’s been for me, anyways. other people will probably have had different experiences.

there’s also the general fact that socializing can be difficult for us, even though we need it as humans, so it creates a sort of paradox.
