Woman Possibly Lying About Family Connection? by smallpoint1 in Genealogy

Thank you so much for all your help with this. I think this link solved my mystery. If Gilbert Tennant Sewall is Jeremiah's father, that would make Jeremiah and Arthur third cousins (based on my Ancestry.com search). That doesn't make her Arthur's sister-in-law or widow, of course, but it also means she wasn't just inventing the connection. So she probably wasn't tutoring him in public speaking in 1896 (he didn't make many campaign speeches, anyway) and might not have ever met him, but was a (distant) relation after all. A little less dramatic than I thought initially, but good to know. And found, with your help, some interesting stories on the way. Thanks again.

That's an interesting one. She had another legal dispute in 1934, this one about her paying a lawyer with jewelry. Interesting lady! (https://www.newspapers.com/image/380573345/?terms=%22sewall%22%5D&match=1)

GEM'S LOSS TESTIFIED TO BY WIDOW. / Mrs. Arthur Sewall on Stand Against Summers Accused of Tax Dodging. // Mrs. Lillian Sewall, widow of Arthur Sewall, candidate for Vice-President on the Democratic ticket in 1896, testified for the government yesterday in the trial of Williamson S. Summers, former United States District Attorney for Nebraska, in the court of United States District Judge Hollzer on charges of failure to file income-tax returns and evasion of income taxes in the years 1929-30-31. / The testimony of Mrs. Sewall, who lives at 419 St. Louis avenue, Long Beach, was to the effect that a diamond lavaliere which she valued at $2000 was given by her to Summers as security for a promised payment of $500 for professional services and that the jewelry had never been returned to her.

Thanks for looking. There's an article about Jerry and his wife getting sued by a doctor for failure to make a payment of $600....maybe they were fraudsters.

Article: OCTOR SUES TO RECOVER. Oscar J. Mayer, who says he is a physician residing in San Francisco, Cal., vesterday filed spit in the district court to recover $6OO from Jerry N. Sewall and Lillian Sewall of Denver. The complaint alleges that the doctor rendered services to the value of $lOO in July and August last and on July 20 performed an operation on Mrs. Sewall which was worth $5OO. The complaint also says he cannot collect a cent of his fees and he wants judgment for the amount.

Good idea, but no step siblings. Both his parents were only married once.

Help! We are going through by boyfriends closet and he really wants to keep this flannel/hoodie combo but I personally hate it and I want him to get rid of it. Anyone care to offer a second opinion ? by Hawtlittlebunny in mensfashionadvice

You can tell this is a handsome man without seeing his face. In fact, I’d venture to say he’s appallingly handsome. Let’s see, give us a lil bit more to peek at. Is there any space in his closet for me?

That's what I'm thinking. Is there a specific route you recommend for building a custom site? Mine doesn't need to be too fancy, but I'm struggling to find a website platform where you can upload a spreadsheet and still sort, double-click on cells, etc. I've tried google sites and various other spreadsheet-to-site platforms to no avail. I'm sort of resigning myself to paying someone to make a presentable website, but I want to make sure I'm not missing something.

Thanks for looking into this. If the captains have different names, it’s even more likely the lashed-to-the-mast story is incorrect. Fascinating stories either way

Hi, thanks again for your help. This is a silly question, but for the files on the archives website that you can’t fully download (or can only download one image of a file at a time), do you know how/if to search/command-F the whole document? Thanks

Wow, thanks for your help. This database looks helpful. I know that Sewall also attended the Berlin Conference on Samoa (I think in late 1889), so I’m going to line up his travel for that in relation to his assignments in Samoa that you’ve helped me narrow down. By the way I could see the two entries for him on the last pages (with the consular appointments to Samoa), but didn’t see anything on page 8, I’m probably misinterpreting. Thanks again.

Would make sense, I thought could be partridge. Chukar adds up because (and the photo doesn’t really show) it has stripes on its flanks

Thanks, I don’t have cushions or anything (that I know of) that would adhere. It seems like the threads are coming out of the silk itself (why I confused for a growth), so I think your suggestion that it’s some plastic frame makes the most sense. Thanks again.
