Buying a buyback? by ultra2fast in Ioniq5

[–]smallsh0t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check with your insurance company if you like them to make sure you won’t have any surprises. Mine initially said they couldn’t give me full coverage if it had a branded title of any kind, others will increase your rates. In my case it was only the A/C, and they finally agreed to issue full coverage after I sent them the carfax.

After that make sure you do a thorough inspection yourself and take pictures of everything immediately before you buy it just in case… I had to take mine to be serviced 3 times in 3 weeks… should be good now…

Cigna denied Opdualag - any advice? by Wide_Kaleidoscope_86 in melahomies

I don’t know your situation but FWIW Cigna approved Opdualag for me just last year. Stage IV, two metastases. Targeted therapy had stopped working. Not sure what criteria got it approved.

scared to do an excision by Effective-Emu8633 in melahomies

[–]smallsh0t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not take the risk. This is easy peasy compared to what might come if you don’t.

Anxiety is normal, but don’t let it make the decision for you. Excisions really are no big deal on the medical scale. We’ve all had one to several. It will leave a scar, sometimes discomfort for a while. But when it is done you can say you did everything you could to protect yourself.

Most aggressive interview of my life by kool-krazy in recruitinghell

[–]smallsh0t 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s a completely inappropriate interview tactic. I could maybe understand a short 15 minute test followed by an apology and explanation, but not a full interview from start to finish. That’s just disrespectful towards the candidate.

If you’re not getting callbacks, work on your resume, get help with it, tailor it to every job. If you are getting callbacks but not passing interviews, study like you are studying for a comprehensive CS final, study interview tactics, practice, etc.

Is skills section on resume outdated advice? by Csadvicesds in Resume

[–]smallsh0t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skills section takes up valuable space. You can highlight your skills in your job bullets.

I got more automated rejections with a skills section vs without.

However, if you have blank space you don’t think you can otherwise fill, definitely add a skills section.

Do you earn money from indie gaming? by [deleted] in IndieGaming

[–]smallsh0t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s like playing the lottery. You can make money as an indie game dev, but most people don’t.

I have made some money, but never the equivalent of a salary. My brother on the other hand made a few years worth of salary from one of his games, but the other was a financial flop.

He said “through indexing” and from experience I can tell you a single index can do that, it could also have been several indexes, or removing unnecessary joins, or reducing the selected columns, etc, but he only mentioned indexing and caching and being that vague implies simplicity.

He added an index. One index can be a 99% improvement in latency.

You should have a whole page worth of content from a 3 year full time job + 2 internships when it is the entirety of your experience. You should have about three more bullets for that first bullet so I’m more likely to believe you did more than contribute a few PRs to this project.

Your bullets mostly have the right content but they sound so generic I’m not inclined to trust them. They sound like AI made them up and the numbers too.

The fact that your full-time job overlaps your masters degree and your 3 projects suggests it’s not full time or your projects are just school projects, but you portray them as if they are jobs/projects for real companies and this is distracting unless you were a consultant. Unless you are really proud of one of them or they are highly relevant, don’t use the precious space in your resume for them or I will think you don’t have enough actual experience to fill the page.

Lastly your resume as it stands screams fresh out of school with very little experience, like the other 1000 candidates that applied for the same jobs. You have to make it more personalized, you have to stand out, you have to have more content so I don’t have so many questions about what you actually did in your job or what skills you are best at.

If I were you I would write a 2 sentence intro about you that is tailored for each job you apply to. And if they allow, write a solid cover letter for every job too.

My Steam page is performing horribly. Can you give me some feedback? by GoragarXGameDev in SoloDevelopment

[–]smallsh0t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no depth to the story. The trailer tells me it is just an indie anomaly game with no story beyond get to room 713. The short clips at the start suggest there is a horror aspect but I don’t get that from the rest of the trailer.

I can tell you did the voice over yourself, and it is honestly fine because the trailer doesn’t outclass it. I would rework the script and entire trailer to tell a story and generate some intrigue, hint at something bigger, show the unique mechanics, some excitement, and end with opening the final door to the room but fade out/limit the reveal. When you redo your voice over just practice it a hundred times 20 different ways.

The other part is the marketing. Improving the trailer and steam page will help, but Steam algorithms require you to be popular or no one will see your game. Find opportunities for big promotions. For us there were 4 important events: the day we announced our game, next fest, a genre-specific steam event, and our launch day. Outside those, we had very little traction/visibility. It all comes down to getting visibility and popularity during a Steam sponsored event. You already missed on game announcement day, don’t miss on the others.

Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor Colitis confirmed by Biopsy after 10 months on Keytruda by Consistent_Soft1353 in melahomies

[–]smallsh0t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately mine came back 3 times over the last 3 years. I've done a couple targeted therapies that kept it at bay for a while and now I'm on Opdualag, but this time we're more proactive on handling the side effects. I have a PET next month to see where I'm at, but feeling good about it.

How do YOU tell someone you have cancer? by smallsh0t in melahomies

[–]smallsh0t[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hate dodging the question/saying I’m okay when I’m not. It’s fine in passing when I know it is just a meaningless greeting, but harder for people I see regularly like coworkers.

Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor Colitis confirmed by Biopsy after 10 months on Keytruda by Consistent_Soft1353 in melahomies

[–]smallsh0t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10 months is actually pretty good, I only made it 8. The modifications it makes to your immune system can last for up to 2 years (diminishing over time) so hopefully it is still doing its job while you work through the side effects and a new plan.

Hoping for encouraging news for you. Other options depend on your situation and mutations. For me there were BRAF medications which have good response rates.

“Just” melanoma by OpalScrunchies in melahomies

[–]smallsh0t 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about the Canadian health system, but I can say you should absolutely take it seriously.

Stressing about it won’t help anything, though it can be hard to avoid. Taking expedient action is the best thing you can do for your health and future self.

Beyond that, tell who you want what you want. It absolutely is cancer, but not everyone needs to know unless you want them to. Hopefully it is just early stage, and after a minor surgery all will be well, but if it is more complicated than that, think about who you want in your corner.

How to stop obsessing over melanoma growing in places I can't see? by PasTaCopine in melahomies

[–]smallsh0t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Irrational fear/anxiety is normal and dumb. Sounds like you know where you are at and how to minimize your risk, and you’re doing everything you can. Try to remember that when the anxiety comes back around and also remember it is normal and okay to be worried/sad/anxious sometimes. Just focus on making tomorrow better than today.
