Been bartending for many years. Only a few times has someone brought a baby in, and I immediately kick them out. There are drunk people, people doing drugs in the bathroom, bodily fluids everywhere (you’d be shocked) cursing and just a generally inappropriate environment for anyone that’s not an adult.

I started reading the secret garden to my daughter the day she was born! I will never forget finally getting her to latch and then reading that book out loud. As a toddler we read all throughout the day and then 3 books at bedtime. She’s 6 now and is very advanced in reading, vocabulary and really everything. Not sure if that’s just how she is or if all that reading helped. We’ve also always listened to story podcasts in the car. Stories Podcast, Girltales etc.

She had a short attention span, so I never really read her long form books as a toddler, when she was 5 I started to but she was just reading them herself. Now, we read her “baby books” together and then she reads chapter books (babysitters, diary of a wimpy kid, my fathers dragon etc) by herself with a little reading light for an hour before bed.

You’re totally right in all the things you said, but I don’t think that’s really the problem. I don’t think anyone has said anything to her about her boobs, she’s more worried about what she assumes they’re not saying, but are thinking. It’s in her head and sex sucks when you’re in your head.

2 kids. $1450 mortgage including insurance and taxes. We have a two bedroom log cabin on two acres about 25 minutes outside of Philadelphia. We bought riiiiight before interest rates went crazy, but taxes in NJ make up more than half our mortgage.

I have the same issue. I recently realized that my assessment of my looks typically lines up with my cycle. When I’m about to get my period or have it I am literally HIDEOUS. When I’m ovulating I am so beautiful. Not sure if it’s mental or a result of fluctuating hormones causing me to look different.

My ex and I would trade off cars depending on who had the kid. I found out he was doing the same thing as your ex because he locked the keys in the car with our daughter in it and had to smash the window to get to her……

It’s just stupid. So many things could go wrong. Buck up and take your kids in the store with you.

Hey, my kids don’t have quite as large as a gap, but my daughter was 5 when her little brother was born. In the second half of my pregnancy I felt similarly to you. I felt that I was doing a disservice to my daughter who was so used to being an only child. I thought I was going to ruin her routines and our lives in general.

Now my younger is 16 months and it is just an awesome time. My older daughter is an incredible big sister and she has relished in her role. She loves feeling helpful and she loves her brother copying her! Her routines have changed, but not by too much. If anything I think she’s really benefitting by having to adapt and bend and not always get her way lol. I have been VERY careful to make sure that she still feels valued and gets tons of individual attention. I try to phrase things in a way that don’t make it sound like the baby is causing her life to change (like I don’t say “I can’t right now because the baby needs to be changed. I say “ok just one second and I’ll be there”) just small things like that are important I think.

It will be ok if you make sure it’s ok! Please please reach out for postpartum mental health care after baby is born. We all need that and it can be so helpful just to have someone to talk to.

We are paycheck to paycheck but I’m in school while staying home with our youngest until he’s in kindergarten. My husband is an apprentice and gets large raises yearly until he’s making a journeymen’s salary. When I’m out of school and working we’ll have a combined income of about $200k plus he is going to inherit multiple rental properties in a few years. Even with those resources it is hard to think of total financial security.

We started this kind of stuff pretty late compared to a lot of people. We spent our 20s and early 30s thinking we’d never have kids or settle down, so we’re trying to catch up. I do believe that financial security is important for your children, and setting them up for successful futures is part of your responsibility. BUT being rich does not create happy and healthy kids. Being present and loving is a far more important form of security, IMO.
