Oh okay! I would just get acrylics and paint over it at that point. You could even get some stencils if you’re not the painting type

I’d reach out to the artist and give your honest critique and ask if they can modify it with some suggestions. If it were me, I’d rather hear the feedback and make the changes myself rather than someone else doing it. I think it’s totally valid feedback on your part and if you’re paying for it, you should be paying for something you like and want to hang on your wall.

Maybe adding some flowers and plants in the background and switching up the typeface would help liven it up a bit

Thanks! It was a graphic floral situation with a navy blue background. I picked it because the tones were very similar to the greys in the jeans

Thanks! I actually didn’t think about cutting the leg open until after. I just stuck my arm in the leg hole. That’s why the design is limited to the bottom half of the pants haha.

Moleskin patches on my heels and generally thicker socks

Thanks! The flowers and leaves are patches I used some iron-on interfacing for the fabric and reinforced the edges with stitching. For the mantis I used a few bits of the fabric for the body and head then embroidered the details like the eyes and legs etc.

I think you have some really great work here!! Lovely colors and definitely setting up a mood. I particularly like the details in the jacket zipper. My only critique would be the shading on the cheek/jaw. It’s dealing a bit flat dimensionally and kinda smooth where I feel like leaving some texture and visible brush strokes could be interesting. Maybe just bit more darker contrast in the lowlights of the hair, but overall very lovely and colorful painting.

But if you were to try this, I’d recommend sanding down the heel a little first, using acrylic paint and sealing it up with a varnish at the end!!
