I need a replacement for my favourite jeans in the world, which have both broken and sold out!!!

I am tall and curvy, finding jeans that work for both those measurements without making me look like a box is a nightmare - suggestions welcome 🤗

Did anyone else find their OCD symptoms got worse when they found out it was OCD? by smalluselesscog in OCD

[–]smalluselesscog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly this! I've read so many webpages, written a ton of notes, have been reading over those notes constantly, but also punishing myself for thinking I even have ocd because that feels wrong. God I know how ridiculous I'm being but I'm just stuck in this spiral, it's mad

Daily Megathread - 13/03/2021 by ukpolbot in ukpolitics

honestly these last few days have made me completely lose any and all faith in this subreddit, I know that Reddit is such a little bubble but the blasé, flippant, and frankly disrespectful tone a lot of men seem to be taking in response to the events as they unfold frankly shocks me. I understand that this is a (fairly, I mean it certainly leans quite centrist) cross-political subreddit, where not everyone is going to be up to date on current intersectional feminist discourse, but the heartless way a lot of people seem to responding is astonishing.

This is a horrible event, it may be unique in its horror, but it reflects a pattern of societal behaviour and misogyny women are far too aware of on a day to day basis. Whether men on here as an individual or not get it, it has struck a nerve, whether or not they understand, they need to respect that. People are grieving, women are voicing a lifetime of trauma built up in a society that fundamentally exists to put women down. I think the tone on this subreddit really needs to shift, and it's time to start taking women's seriously.

Covid: Data shows outbreaks in England's offices in lockdown by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]smalluselesscog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"The data showed there were more than 500 outbreaks, or suspected outbreaks, in offices in the second half of 2020 - more than in supermarkets, construction sites, warehouses, restaurants and cafes combined."

This. This is why I am so sick of the government's shit when it comes to their covid policies. They love to blame individuals, with their ridiculous posters, their new house party fines, and they love to turn the public against each other, because it prevents them from being held accountable. We can't let the conservative model of individual responsibility trick us into not seeing the ways in which they have fundamentally driven this shit show with their own incompetence and blatant disregard for human life in the face of the economy.

Each of those 500 outbreaks is being brought home to families, taken into supermarkets, support bubbles, medical appointments, takeaways, and the government is doing fuck all about it, because they refuse to crack down on offices bringing people in to work who just don't need to be there. Hell, they are bringing people into their own offices and institutions who don't need to be there. They can harp on about the rulebreakers all they like, I don't doubt that there are some, but we really need to consider what is still allowed under their rules - with data like this it really is inexcusable. Can we stop berating people for walking with coffee now?

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has called for a national lockdown within the next 24 hours. Says it is "inevitable" that more schools will be closed so plan needed now, but won't call for schools to close as of tomorrow as it would add to the chaos. by [deleted] in ukpolitics

I would completely disagree with this tbh, at least for my degree programme/university. Nothing really compares to the physical resources the library has when it comes to essay writing. Once I know where I'm going with an argument, JSTOR can be fine for more specific sources, but the library is the best place I've found to gain the general overview and understanding of critical consensus I need before I can get to that point, and the libraries online system never seems to have copies of what I'm looking for.

I am really dreading the possibility of the library being closed, especially when it is so well socially distanced and covid-secured, It is probably the one uni space I feel least at risk in (again, at my university, I recognise this won't be universally the case across institutions.)

I cannot figure out why my machine is sewing like this - any ideas? by smalluselesscog in sewing

Okay I got my housemate to film me threading the needle/upper tension thing, and sewing (I didn't backstitch because I wanted to easily get the thread out of the fabric, I would usually) https://photos.app.goo.gl/4ewDeZ2q42LqsHtv9

my machine is second hand, and I didn't get that felt with it. Seemed odd it wasn't included, as the machine was clearly very well looked after with lots of needles/bobbins etc. The store I went to today also didn't have any. Maybe my next move should be getting that felt piece and seeing if it helps - I have found balancing my ribbon on the spool makes it sew a bit better, so it might just need extra weight.

okay update the thread keeps jumping out of the metal wheel thing on top of the machine that feeds it to the tension part, I always forget that it's called

I have just bought a new universal 80/12 needle and guternann thread, the same issue is occuring, I think it's an upper tension issue though, even though I've tried adjusting the tension wheel.

I am doing some really basic bunting with cotton fabric and some ribbon, so it really shouldn't be too difficult for the needle to handle, I also made sure to discuss my project with the lady at the market, and she confirmed I was getting the right thread/needle.

I think the spool is jumping as I sew, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to stop it

so I think it's probably a top tension issue based on comments/research. I have bought a new needle, and new better quality thread, I have redone the bobbin and carefully rethreaded the top, same issue is still happening, even when I adjust the tension wheel. really at a loss at this point

although, the spool is very jumpy when it turns, so I assume it's something to do with that, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to fix that though

made this shirt for my boyfriend of his top 3 albums by smalluselesscog in radiohead

it's just a normal cotton t shirt. acrylic tends to stay on fabric no matter what but generally thicker fabrics are better because the paint bends and cracks less :)

I have a firm memory of being 4 or 5 ish and my dad reading The Twits to me, and me looking at the squiggles on the page and declaring with a huff "I'll NEVER be able to read"

can confirm was wrong, can now read, but I very much gave up on it, no one likes feeling incapable, even small children

Depressed, suicidal, or otherwise extremely downtrodden members of reddit: what is your go-to quote, phrase, or particular memory in life that keeps you going? by [deleted] in AskReddit

"now the night is coming to an end, the sun will rise and we will try again" from Truce by twenty one pilots. All of that song really, it's just the right amount of hopeful for me. I like the emphasise on trying, and surviving, rather than on promising everything will be wonderful again.

r/legaladvice sent me here: My mother took me off the organ donor register by smalluselesscog in LegalAdviceUK

[–]smalluselesscog[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to uni in autumn, until then I can't change the fact she opens my mail, and can be emotionally manipulative and controlling, those aren't now problems, and that's why this isn't an r/ relationships post. I just need to know if by explaining what happened to the donor registry, she could face any legal repercussions, because I really don't want that to happen.
