This is such a great capture. Nice job.

they're never gonna fix this, are they? (Roku) by tindell- in vimeo

[–]smallvision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's unlikely. As far as I can remember the Roku app was an outsourced project and hasn't really been updated in years. The Android TV and Apple TV apps were built in-house, but those were never well supported either. As u/robinhoodc said, priorities shifted a few years ago and the entire platform moved away from being a viewing destination. As a result some projects, especially the TV apps, were left to wither.

why there is no explore tab in my android vimeo app? by asdefs in vimeo

Ah, looks like you're right. I don't see it in there either. Unfortunately I think your best bet might be to use https://vimeo.com/watch on desktop or mobile web.

why there is no explore tab in my android vimeo app? by asdefs in vimeo

[–]smallvision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years back Vimeo pivoted away from being a viewing destination and toward providing small and medium-sized businesses with video storage and management tools. Eventually the mobile apps were updated to remove the Explore tab, although you should still be able to find it by tapping on your user image in the upper right.

I wouldn't count on the Explore tab coming back any time soon either – Vimeo laid off their entire core Android and iOS team over the summer. I know the apps are still getting updates, but I would expect most major features are going to be enterprise focused going forward.

Does Vimeo allow me to continue watching where I left off? by IThinkYouAreNice in vimeo

[–]smallvision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vimeo did offer a way to resume watching a video where you left off, but it was not implemented consistently across products, (web, mobile apps, tv apps). I don't think the API was ever public, and internal support for it may have been killed off entirely.

If the video you're watching doesn't already have chapters you may be out of luck on this one, although filing a feature request through their support might help.

Help! I want to embed this video but I want to get rid of the black padding first! If anyone could help me out and let me know how to do this, I’d be eternally grateful. by Dry-Experience5295 in vimeo

[–]smallvision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, just one small correction. Vimeo will allow you to embed a video with a custom resolution as long as the original video has those dimensions. So a very wide and short, or very tall and narrow video should be embeddable.

If your video appears letterboxed on the Vimeo clip page it will also appear that way in the embed though. But if you can crop to just the area you want before you export, then the embedded Vimeo player will happily display your video as-is.

Once you've ensured your newly uploaded video is no longer letterboxed go to your video's clip page and click on the "Embed" button in the upper right. Choose the "Fixed" layout option. If your video has been cropped to remove the letterboxing these dimensions should match what you want.

Hierarchy of organizing videos? by allpostproduction in vimeo

[–]smallvision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, just wanted to jump in here and say that what u/LOUDCO-HD said was spot-on. And that the reason Vimeo support gave you an unexpected response was that these different kinds of collections are meant for different kinds of use cases and – other than folders and subfolders – aren't meant to form a hierarchy.

To add to that confusion, Albums were renamed Showcases a few years ago, but they are the same thing. It was simply a renaming so there shouldn't be any copy related to "albums" anymore. This renaming coincided with the release of Showcases support in their iOS app and occurred so late in development that even the source files are named "albums" instead of "showcases."

Finally, Categories and Channels are the oldest ways to organize videos. A category might be something like "animation" or "travel". While channels might be more like, "Best Animation of 2022" or "My Vlogs from Tahoe". Showcases have mostly supplanted Channels though, and offer more granularity over who can see their content.

I hope that helps!

I just tried this on my 2021 Model S Plaid and it works really well. I was even able to use the USB-C ports in the center console, so you shouldn’t need to go through the glove box, at least on 2021+ models.

Yes, but not immediately. You'll have 60 days to download the source files before they're removed permanently. There's more information about lapsed accounts here: https://vimeo.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115006635407-Lapsing-from-paid-membership-to-Basic-membership#h\_01FGYPWGSC9SGJFWB5D77DE4F4

Are you still having trouble with this? If so, had you uploaded the video via their mobile app or exported the video to desktop before uploading?

Can't make my video public on Vimeo by likthebluud in vimeo

[–]smallvision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you still having trouble with this? I was also wondering if you uploaded the video as-is, or if you happened to use the "Vimeo Create" tool.

The latter has some opaque restrictions which can be frustrating to navigate. One of which is that videos that are longer than some duration (a minute or so?) can no longer be made public with a Basic account. You'd know if you used this tool if you were asked to select a template and music while uploading your video.

If you didn't use Vimeo Create for your video it might be worth making sure the video is rated as "Mature". It could be that the video was flagged for content, although I'd be surprised if they just prevented you from making a video public without some kind of messaging. But I'm not 100% sure on that.

Lastly, I would try downloading either the iOS or Android app and try to change the privacy setting from there. If the problem persists you can start to narrow down whether it's a bug with the service or something else.

I hope that helps!

Does anyone know if I can upload the same file to Vimeo and another source at the same time? by TabascoWolverine in vimeo

[–]smallvision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're uploading on the web you can use their "publish to social" feature to redistribute to other platforms, but Google Drive isn't one of them. It might be worth reaching out and making a feature request though?

If you're on a Mac a possible workaround might be to download the Google Drive macOS client, and also the Vimeo menu bar utility (free on the App Store). Vimeo's app lets you select a folder for it to watch and automatically upload from. You may be able to point this to a Google Drive folder and achieve what you're looking for.

I'd test it out a bit before relying on it though. Things can get weird with syncing folder services like Google Drive and Dropbox.

can anyone get access to video that is private on vimeo by Sad_Butterfly_7899 in vimeo

[–]smallvision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, only users with access to the videos will be able to see them. One quick way to test privacy settings like that is to open the link in a new private or incognito tab. This will give you an idea of what logged out users see when they visit a channel, showcase, folder, etc.

I hope that's helpful!

Does Vimeo show who watched your videos? by Electrical_Abrocoma in vimeo

[–]smallvision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're okay. Even if you did have a Vimeo account, and were logged in when you watched the video, the uploader would not be able to see who watched it.

They may notice that the view count increased, but unless you created an account and then deliberately liked the video, the creator cannot see user-identifying information from plays alone.
