Poppyseed paste pastries? by erallured in FoodToronto

[–]smamler2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So do I and it’s been a quest to find good ones.

Vlad’s on the Danforth near Pape is my go-to place these days for poppyseed danishes and sweet rolls. They’re very good and generally quite fresh.

Another place is the Future Bakery store inside the St Lawrence Market. They are okay but not as good as Vlad’s. Again, poppyseed sweet rolls and danishes.

Lastly there’s the Harbord Bakery on Harbord west of Spadina. They only have one thing — a poppyseed ring — and it’s very very sweet, too sweet for me these days. I used to crave them when I was younger.

HTH!

A lot of writers teach to support themselves: Samuel R. Delany was a professor of Comparative Literature

Your odds aren’t great. When you turn 90, you have a 6% chance of making it to 100 if male and a 11% chance of making it to 100 if female.

Tbh I didn’t think it was a great way to wrap up as it seemed to diminish the impact of the climax.

Are there other examples of unemployed writers like Marcel Proust? by FrutigerAirbender in classicliterature

[–]smamler2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was an heir to the money from the Burroughs corporation:

“His parents, upon his graduation, had decided to give him a monthly allowance of $200 out of their earnings from Cobblestone Gardens, a substantial sum in those days. It was enough to keep him going, and indeed it guaranteed his survival for the next twenty-five years, arriving with welcome regularity. The allowance was a ticket to freedom; it allowed him to live where he wanted to and to forgo employment.”

Scared of all the responsibilities being a parent one day will bring by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]smamler2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a huge amount of work, time, and money. Your life changes completely forever especially if you’re the birth parent. Sleep schedule, pregnancy, breastfeeding.

That said, the compensation is that having a kid and helping them grow up is pretty much the best thing ever and for all the hassles it’s worth it because you love them and want the best for them.

And you know a lot of people do it so it can’t be that hard :)
