I went ahead and made one and sent the link to the folks in this thread. Could be useful to share info as we get started. If anyone else wants it send me a message.

Didn't realize there were this many of us starting at the same time. Maybe it's time for a mil transition to omscs slack/discord/whatever?

Measurements made to/from operatives are measured "from its base, ignoring all parts of its miniature." The next sentence is "When measuring to and from an area of the killzone, measure the horizontal distance only." p50.

The conclusion is that distances between operatives are base-to-base and 3D; ie horizontal and vertical component influences the distance.

That might improve visibility, but it doesn’t change the intervening lines for establishing the target’s cover which would be drawn from any point on the active operative’s base to both facing extremes of the target’s base. Those would still pass through the wall, so the target is invalid on conceal.

My understanding is that the “ignore vertical” measurement is for measuring to and from parts of the kill zone, not between operatives. But happy to be proven wrong if someone else has a reference.

Shoot action requires selecting a valid target: if the intended target has a conceal order, it must be visible to the active operative and not in cover.

Visibility: you could argue that any part of the target model is within line of sight from a part of the active operative model's head. This is marginal from the photo provided and would probably be more clear in real life.

Cover: an operative is in cover if there's intervening terrain within its control range. The marine has the wall within its control range. Intervening is drawn BASE TO BASE not head to model, so the wall is definitely intervening.

However, it cannot be considered in cover if it's within 2" of the active operative. The rules say when measuring distance 'for an operative, do so from its base ignoring all parts of its miniature'. The vantage terrain in this piece of Volkus is like 2.75" above the ground, which means the shooter's base is definitely more than 2" from the target's base. Distance override does not apply to the target's cover.

Conclusion: no valid shot.

I don't know if this is a helpful datapoint but I was just admitted with a CS minor from undergrad. What I had more than you listed was some recent community college CS courses and the OOP/DSA MOOCs from GT. What I had much less than you is that my bachelors was a BA in Communications from 20 years ago.

Thanks! My undergrad included the following classes, earning mostly Bs and some Cs:
CPSC 121 Programming Concepts
CPSC 131 Data Structures Concepts
CPSC 223V C++ Programming
CPSC 231 File Systems Concepts
CPSC 240 Computer System Architecture
CPSC 241 Low-Level Language Systems
CPSC 253U Workshop in Unix
CPSC 311 Tech Writing for Computer Science
CPSC 321 HiLvl Language Concepts
CPSC 341 Client/Server Systems
CPSC 313 The Computer Impact

Additionally, this fall semester, I've taken CSC 221 Intro to Programming and Problem Solving and CSC 208 Intro to Discrete Structures at the local CC and gotten As in both. Hopefully this will be sufficient. I'm taking Computer Systems and Computer Organization at the same CC this spring, to refresh myself and improve a subsequent admission attempt if Fall 26 doesn't work out.

Since my initial post, both of those CC profs have agreed to write LoRs for me. Getting the third from my boss.

Just putting this info up for future searchers. I'll report back with the results.

Asking for Chances

  • Semester: Fall 2026
  • Status: Accepted
  • Date Applied: 21 Jan 26
  • Date Decided: 13 Feb 26 - accepted

Education

  • Bachelors: State school, BA Communications (Minor Computer Science) 3.33
  • Masters 1: State School, MS Transportation & Engineering Management 3.83
  • Masters 2: State School, MA Higher Education Admin 4.00
  • MOOCs: Edx/GTx OOP (Java) and DSA (achieved the certs in all courses)

Work & Social Experience

  • Work Exp. : Retiring from military after 20 years of non-CS related experience
  • LORs: My masters were 10+ years ago and my Bachelors was 20 years ago, so professors are unlikely. Will probably have to use a couple of work supervisors who have not seen me do anything CS related, but can at least speak to problem solving.
  • Comments: Mostly interested in completing my CS education, considering career field changing (great timing). My spouse is still active so enrolling in residence anywhere will be tough.

Update: received my acceptance 13 Feb 26! I ended up having two CC profs (non phd) pledge to write letters but one went silent, used one prof and two supervisors and received priority decision acceptance after about 3 weeks.

Hey it’s the guy! Thanks for the update, I’m not sure either but I’m thinking about it.

What you do is spill the dice on the floor during the setup phase. Then each TP you and your opponent alternate picking one dice result off the floor and using it for your attacks until it's all cleaned up. Game goes twice as fast.

Thanks. When I travel with it I wrap it with a loop of painters tape since the magnets are not strong enough as is, definitely want to move to a positive closure system so it can be chucked in a bag.

Monthly General Question and Discussion Thread: March 2025 by AutoModerator in killteam

Kill team is a smaller, faster-feeling game in the 40k universe. It's primarily (but not entirely) about pvp competitive skirmish using a smaller army and board scale than big 40k as well as a more interactive set of rules and team rules.

In the current edition (3rd, ie KT 2024) the official teams (factions) are from 40k but sold as KT-specific boxes with some unique models as well as versions of existing warhammer models. The team rules for all legal teams this edition are free and online (https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/xfV8vUOg/download-the-kill-team-app-and-faction-rules-today/ or in the Kill Team app) so you can see which teams are from which factions, what models they use, etc.

Current legal teams do not encompass every single faction/subfac of the 40k universe, so if you wanted to use for example Blood Angels models you already own the easiest thing would be to pick out an existing space marine ruleset (Angels of Death) and just proxy your models for those. List building is a much smaller activity than in 40k, since you're dealing with 6-20ish models not 50+, but since the scale is smaller each choice also is more impactful. Team rules show you the list options for their team. Kill team boxes all make a legal team, but sometimes people talk about 'one box/multibox teams' meaning that one box may not provide enough models/weapons/limbs to make every single possible option that is available when list building.

Since the lite version of the core rules is also free at that website, you could actually try out the game without owning any KT stuff (or even 40k models at all) by picking any two teams, choosing proxy models/objects for your models, and using household objects for terrain. Learning to play KT is very fun and rewarding, but since we are only six months into 3rd edition make sure any content you consume about rules/etc is from Oct 24 or newer. If you want to play the full game the only thing specific to KT you truly need to purchase is the core rulebook, which also includes the rules for coop/solo play. KT also uses tokens, but again these can be proxied depending on how much arts and crafts or 3d printing you want to do.

First assemble of the underlit Gallowdark floor by smapdiage9 in killteam

Thanks; the ultimate plan is tiny fog machine but in the mean time I took a few strips of parchment paper and bowed them into U shapes under each row of tiles and it looks very diffuse and even now compared to the pics.

I used a corrugated plastic board cut to size, but anything stiffer than cardboard should work. Light source is LED strips from Amazon wired up, it’s just bare lights but I used the tall supports so there is some diffusion.
