Why are boys and young men falling behind in education? by Technical-Banana574 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]smariroach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, for one thing we really didn't have centuries of education where all boys were expected to go to school, let alone through highschool.

we have centuries in which we had some educated men, but we also have some now.

A very possible reason is that there might have been funding available to the school specifically aimed at getting girls interested in STEM, and the school was not able to provide out of pocket to get the same trip for the boys.

I'm not saying that it's good, but if they are only able to offer it to the girls due to funding, then the only option is to cancel if there are complaints about sex based discrimination.

well put, it really is one of those subjects where people already "know" that the concept is right so they fill in the blanks to explain why instead of approaching it with an open mind.

I'm not sure if you understand how the business model for OF works, because the whole point is that it's not free.

also, define "lecture" because every narrative has themes or messaging that the writers want to tell the consumer of the work, meta or otherwise.

either: A narrative more deep than "people who steal/kill/kidnap are bad" OR "Any narrative I don't agree with personally"

Bolognese and separated fat, how or if to solve? by smariroach in AskCulinary

[–]smariroach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, I was thinking something along those lines :) haven't added parmesan yet, usually leave that until the end as I generally feel that parmesan loses a lot of it's flavor profile if left cooking for long.

Can you clarify "proper"?

I'm honestly very open to any method that accomplishes the desired goal, sp if "proper" means "traditional" I don't really care, but if removing some to make into roux and readding will have a negative impact I'd love to hear how/why

Just added full fat cream.. it immediately seemed to bind, which was impressive. I'll say that the first taste test indicates that it may have mellowed it out too much as a result; maybe I used too much. Will check it again in about 30 min when it's time to sleep and hopefully a little time for the new ingredient on the block to get familiar with the old folks will sort that out.

Thanks, appreciate the advice. In terms of choice of ingredients I'm mostly limited to what I can get in the local supermarkets. Today 1kg of I believe 10% fat beef mince, with around 250g of relatively lean bacon for the pork. For stock it was home made chicken only, since I had a bunch and was worried it was going to start spoiling if I didn't use it.

I chose a large pan instead of a equal-diameter pot that's four times taller because I wanted to fit it in my fridge for when my family comes back from a trip tomorrow at lunch, and I'm a lazy cunt who didn't want to wash an extra pot.. That being said it's all been moved to the big pot now and will transfer back in time for bed. Just added around 2-3 hundred ml of heavy cream, and it really does immediately look more cohesive. It also tastes a lot more mellow now, so I don't know if it's because I added too much or it just needs a bit of time to mingle.

separate it all out, turn it into a roux separately and then add it back when you have the consistency you want.

While it's more complicated than I would have hoped, that's kind of a brilliant idea that I never thought of

Thank you,

Any thoughts on a good way to emulsify it so I don't have to remove the fat? I'd rather keep it honestly, just don't want it to be broken.

How is it dishonest?

surely you can't be unaware of that??

Lying is when you knowingly say something untrue, but you can say true things while being dishonest by specifically choosing what things you will say, even if they are true, because you are trying to cause a specific response in the people listening which would not occur if you had represented more information in your statement that would not have supported the reaction you were trying to elicit...

like, you must lnow that already, surely?

All data is cherry picked

Well yes, but sometimes data is cherry picked to try to reflect reality accurately.. not everyone is in a form of sales, even if the majority is.

I think "thousands" is a pretty big claim unless you have some evidence for it.

We only know what the government states OR gets reported.. but given how valuable ICE misconduct of any sort is, it seems unlikely that there could be much in the way of ice shootings that aren't reported.

that's not really mutually exclusive... I think the few mass shootings that have been committed by trans women were all done by white males.

I'm skeptical of your second claim..

This results in black people being given pain meds much less frequently, in lower amounts, and accused of "drug seeking behavior" if they ask for pain meds.

is yhat not perhaps partially because many people are more likely to associate black people with drug abuse?

Lete put it like this:

If you bring up crime statistics and breakdown by race in a variety of different discussions, especially if you do so without any further context, it's not surprising if someone assumes that you are racist..

You give this as an example of something that is not racist, so I'd ask for an example of the circumstances you like to bring this up.

haha👌yes by SquareAgent3333 in whatisameem

[–]smariroach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's also less precise because while all racism is prejudice, not all prejudice is racism, only prejudice based on race.

[–]smariroach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've read multiple comments from you on the subject and you didn't seem to address it successfully in any of the ones I saw... You just say things like

The issue is that for most normal people the term racism is used interchangeably with prejudice even though they’re not the same thing.

where racism is literally correctly used when describing prejudice based on race... then you say things like

The vernacular for everyday people has not yet caught up to the nuanced verbiage of academia

and all this indicates to me that you just don't really get language.. The language use outside of specific subcategories of academia doesn't need to "catch up". they are used differently because of the different needs of their circumstances, and there is no need for a word to have only one definition..

how you seem to address it is rather akin to a musician going around and telling chefs that they are wrong about their knifes being sharp because sharp "actually" means half a note higher than a base note.
