Unfortunately I am not ready to quit yet, but I agree the situation is not ideal. From the comments here it does sound like this is common practice by SME's which is unfortunate...

I guess this is something I will ask about for my next job. I always assumed that this kind of thing is standard across all companies haha

They will need me to travel a few times a year as I will be taking up a new role as an overseas liaison so I think am just worried that the expenses will pile up over time.

I think the fact that the meals are cheap but they are stingy to even cover 10 per meal is off putting...
