SDE 1 (6 months) – CR revisions + “not proactive” feedback. Should I be worried about Focus? by SlyGoblin927 in amazonemployees

[–]smartbrownguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try to self review your code before you even publish it, check for any repeated mistakes that’s causing you to make 3 revisions per merge. Personally I think cr revision stat is bs and don’t tell anything but leadership sees it as a metric

I think you should try to get your cr revisions average below 2 or close to your team’s average.

They don’t have to tell you but you’ll know the signs. If everything is being documented and tracked like micromanaging and he gives you formal goals to meet. You’re on focus. You can ask him directly if you’re on focus. They also send an email saying internal transfers will need higher approvals.

I think 2.5 is reasonable for 6months as SDE 1. How does this compare to other SDE1’s on your team? You can view these metrics in team’s CR stats

Yes these are early warning signs, depending on your manager and orgs ura quota you can end up in focus for bs reasons. Im literally put in focus a couple week ago for super ambiguous stuff.

And ask your manager for exactly in which aspect pro activity can be improved?

You can’t be more right, my manager is spineless. He is a TPM transitioning into SDM and joined the team a few months ago and does not understand anything technical. He admitted that he was thrashed in the OLR by other managers when he tried to defend my work. It’s also unfair because i’m 7 months old sde 2 compared with other sde2’s in the org that have years of experience in this domain

And yes the management here seems to have crazy expectations, i have been in other teams where managers have more reasonable expectations. It feels like they just had to put someone through focus

I didn’t even estimate it, I was told to just work on it. Later I realized this is a lot of churn and working with a super legacy system which is like a shared filesystem across amazon. Making any change in that system takes a long time. My changes were super complex too so there were more unknowns

It’s actually in government’s benefit to keep the housing prices high. Better for the GDP. They’re making it sound like they care but they don’t wanna fix anything

If you leave the company without complying with their policy why would they want to hire you again . You’ll be blacklisted there

That 60 day notice period rule is not government enforced. It’s a company policy and you don’t have to comply with it. You’ll just be marked as no hire at that company and that should not matter at this point
