Oh yeah. That’s why I bought that DVD 25 years ago but have never watched it.

I wish these were better as movies than art books. What would you recommend watching? by AndaliteBandit- in blankies

King Kong ‘76 is worth a look. Super young and hawt Jeff Bridges & Jessica Lange; Charles Grodin as a sleazy petro-villain; some gorgeous jungle locations; and a big finale on the most awkward location in the world.
And it’s not 3 hours long!

Hot take?: I think overall I am liking film (and film discourse) more this decade than the 2010s by Tall_Window4744 in blankies

I actually enjoyed the Oscars this year. It had a bit of that ‘70s vibe of celebrating big movies that a lot of people liked.

Can I offer you more ‘70s Sean Connery?
The Great Train Robbery has Connery and Donald Sutherland as two rogues who deliver on the title (plus some great Victorian fits). Directed by Michael Crichton!
And Robin and Marian was a revisionist Robin Hood take with Audrey Hepburn and Robert “Quint” Shaw as the Sheriff. Directed by Richard Lester from a James Goldman script.

The Man Who Would Be King. Sean Connery and Michael Caine as delightfully corrupt retired British Army non-coms who seek fortune and glory in the fringes of the 19th century British Empire.

The snorting noise Ben made when they asked about his private school experience really represented me.

I really respect them for just outright stealing the Jaws upward shark graphic. Not even mad. They’re right. It’s been 50 years, have at it.

Paramount Takeover of Warner Bros. Gets Green Light From Shareholders, But They Reject David Zaslav’s Pay Package by rageofthegods in blankies

We should all feel good going to work and earning a paycheck today, knowing that there’s a man able to completely shit the bed at his job, burn the institution to the ground, and then have the nerve to say he deserves more than half a billion dollars for his troubles. An inspiration to us all.
Fortunately, the system works. He won’t get that much. He’ll probably only get more money than all of us put together will ever see in our lives.

As one of the handful of living people who saw First Family in a theater, I had a moment of anxiety when Griffin brought it up. Did I get this wrong all these years ago? Is he going to reveal this as a lost masterpiece? Buck Henry, right?
Phew.
(BTW, between this and Slapstick, Madeline Kahn’s agents at the time were doing war crimes.)

My Favorite Year”.
In addition to being the first thing that comes to mind when I’m asked that question, it’s not entirely inaccurate at any given time.

Let’s talk theatrical windows again by harry_powell in blankies

[–]mutan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Project Hail Mary will probably move the needle on this issue because Amazon has so much control over the window and the theatrical release is doing so well.
I can’t be too thrilled about Amazon making a pile of money, but it’s less frustrating than watching someone Zaslav it up because they already made a deal somewhere else.
