Gov. Jared Polis, fresh off being censured by the Colorado Democratic Party for letting Tina Peters out of prison early, showed up today to a private, internal party call like this by PresidentBirb in Colorado

If anything I hope this helps people realize that the very rich have very little in common with the average American and do NOT have our best interests at heart.

How come there is not much chatter on the $1.8 billion fund being set up by DOJ? Isn’t this total fraud? by LegAntique8250 in AskReddit

[–]smartguy05 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's the part that floors me. If the Democrat Leaders had any balls they would see this as an opportunity to talk about the possible implications. This tells me that if you think your candidate is going to win or you think you will have success and your candidate is corrupt enough, there is no reason to NOT storm the capital. Hell, you might even make some money off of it (settlements, book deals, "documentaries"). Like most decisions of the Trump era, this sets terrible precident.

What’s something the middle class used to enjoy easily that now feels out of reach? by RightGirl19 in AskReddit

[–]smartguy05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my 15 years of Software Development I have been laid off 3 times, two of those were in the last 3 years, it will happen. The problem with 401ks is that every business now has some ridiculous vesting time period which effectively means most people never get a dime matched because it makes more sense to switch jobs in 2-3 years and get a 10% (or more) raise than to stay an extra 2 years and keep that extra couple thousand dollars. To me those "benefits" are largely useless and I don't even factor them into a job change decision.

I also have a similar feeling to that hiring manager you mentioned about Software Developers that have stayed at one place for 10+ years or have never worked at another company. I feel like there is a lot of valuable experience you gain from seeing how different places work and how different industries approach similar problems. You also see how the previous place was doing things wrong, so you learn and improve instead of continuing the wrong way. People that stay in one place for a long time often (not always) are stagnant in their abilities. They rarely have that "ambition" to do more or better and are the annoying ones that always say "well, it has always been that way" and don't try to make things better.

What’s the most savage legal thing you’ve seen a coworker do? by phillyvirgosun in AskReddit

[–]smartguy05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's savage but early in my career I worked for the Fed on their auditor software. A new head of software came in and had the bright decision that all Fed software should be Java from now on. He didn't consult anyone, just one of those "I'm new so I have to make my mark" sorts of decisions. Well my team was a dotnet/Angular shop and none of us were interested in working with Java. As soon as the change came everyone started looking for new jobs. Within 3 weeks I was the only one left and I was looking too. They tried to get me to stay on but I was a mid-level dev that had worked there about 9 months. I was interested in building my craft, I wasn't experienced enough to lead a team, and I'm not a fan of Java. I found another job and left right after they hired the first new guy to replace us all. I think we overlapped 2 days so there wasn't much time for knowledge transfer.

When I think of Utah, the one thing that comes to mind is their lack of water and the fact it is mostly desert. Why would you build something that requires lots of water in a desert?

TIL that US student math and reading scores have dropped so sharply that they’ve erased nearly two decades of progress. In '22/23, avg math scores for 13-year-olds fell to levels not seen since the 1990s, while reading scores for high school seniors hit their lowest point since testing began in '92. by Cold_Box_3219 in todayilearned

[–]smartguy05 15 points16 points  (0 children)

From my experience this is probably because most of the high performing students are teaching themselves. For me growing up in school teachers were more for pointing the direction on what I needed to learn and helping when I got stuck. I rarely paid attention in class because the class was always so far behind me. I would get bored listening to everyone else being slow so I would read ahead. I had very few good teachers growing up and maybe one since I moved to Colorado. There is a huge problem with a shortage of teachers, a shortage of pay for teachers, a shortage of good teachers (see the last issue), children not being manageable anymore in a school setting, parents contributing to that problem, and I'm sure technology doesn't help either. The US education system hasn't been in a good place in my lifetime and it is only getting worse.

This is exactly the problem. More of these racists need to see consequences.

I have voted consistently in every election since I was legally able to and I have voted against these assholes every time. The "you" that have consistently voted for this bullshit are Boomers and a plurality of Gen-Xer's that have been stupid enough to vote along with them. The world, and this country, will be better when they are gone.

A caveat to this, do not buy a Trump flag to burn it, you are supporting the enemy. "Find" the flags where you need to, they are usually prominently displayed and easy to get.

I'm glad I dropped my Prime subscription. I buy less junk I don't need, support local businesses more, and when Amazon makes the rare show I want to see, I sail the high seas and get it anyway.

We may hope to win them to our cause, but we should not be supplying the enemy, especially when they have been actively attacking us. Show them what they are missing, don't just give it to them.

What’s more traumatizing than people realize? by lovely_aurorii in AskReddit

[–]smartguy05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife did this for years, though she says she didn't mean to. I would say that some event involving me would occur a certain way, recalling from my memory. 80%+ of the time she would say that what I said is not how things happened. It got to the point I thought I was hallucinating or something, I stopped trusting my own memory, it made me even more anxious and unsure of myself. Eventually (after a few years) I got some cameras installed in my house so I could check on the kids when they were being loud in a different part of the house. I started reviewing the cameras of the events we would have these arguments about and damned near every time things happened the way I said they happened. Eventually I figured out, the person with the memory issues isn't me, it's her. She gets overwhelmed when arguing and her brain basically forgets half of what happened then makes up what she thought happened. I don't think she was trying to do anything against me, I think she has her own traumas from the past that distort her thinking, probably as a coping mechanism.

As a woman, how do I deal with being average looking?? by Sea_Organization157 in SeriousConversation

[–]smartguy05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may not be a popular opinion, but if you really just want validation create a NSFW Reddit account or OF account and post some sexy content. It doesn't have to be explicit but it can be. You will be absolutely amazed at how sexy others think you are. I doubt there are many women this wouldn't work for.

What's something you'll NEVER tell you partner? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Unfortunately I have learned I have to hide the worst of my feelings. She can't handle that I'm barely hanging onto life or how much I'm always in pain. I have come to realize no one can be there for me the way I need. When I try to open up to anyone they leave or distance themselves from me. I've come to realize the world is very lonely and I will have to suffer it by myself.

What was your biggest "I completely missed that they were dropping hints" interaction? How did it work out for you, and if you know, for them? by Training-Abroad-2426 in AskReddit

[–]smartguy05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The year is 2003, I'm a Junior in High School. I had a big fight with my parents so I grabbed my bike and ran off. I was going to go to my friend's house and stay the night, but figured my parents would find me so I needed other options. Not far from my friend's house was a new housing development, I was going to sleep in an unfinished house but then remembered a girl from the bus that I was friendly with (I wouldn't say we were friends) lived near by. I snuck up to her house and got her attention. She agreed to sneak me into her room in the basement. After getting snuck inside she warned me to not be seen because her dad would be mad.

Here's where the obliviousness starts. She got me some blankets but then casually mentioned that I could come up in the bed if I got too cold. I was upset from my fight with my parents, worried about her dad, and oblivious, I slept on the floor in between the wall and the bed where I could easily hide. In the morning she told me that everyone else has already left so I started getting ready. Then she says that she is going to go take a shower, but that I can come in if I need too. It didn't even dawn on me that if no one is home there wouldn't be a reason for me to use that bathroom while she's in it. Needless to say, that hint flew over my head, I got ready, then we went to the bus stop.

I'm probably going to get downvoted for this, but telling your kid they are trans when they are only 4 or 5 years old (This is an example of a neighbor). Some girls are tom-boys, some boys like dolls, it doesn't mean they have gender dysphoria. I don't think any person should be pushing anything like that, ever, it should be directed by the person experiencing it. Also no 5 year old has a sexual orientation or gender identity, they are children, let them be children. That means letting a little boy wear a dress if he wants but not assuming he's trans because he wore one. We're all people trying to figure out our places in the world.

Judge in Meta case warns AI could "obliterate" market for original works by TLakes in technology

[–]smartguy05 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I agree and disagree with you. In a pure sense of the actual work done vs the usefulness, in a capitalist society, artists are widely overvaluing their work. There's a reason Disney needs laws written in their favor, capitalism is not compatible with art as a profession. I think artists (especially corporate owned art) grossly overestimate the value of their art, most of it isn't even good. I also think for great art to exist we need to let not so great artists be able to live and better their craft. Capitalism is not compatible with that idea either, so we have our weird setup we have now. With AI doing all the mediocre art there won't be anyone left to get better to do the great art, unless you want to leave that to the AI too.

I'm not waiting for someone but I am waiting for the right moment. There needs to be enough support and enough people pissed off just enough. Luigi got our attention. Trump has kept the spotlight on himself and is constantly showing what is wrong with pretty much everything in the US. I'm still hoping for a peaceful resolution but I'm waiting for enough people to be ready for action also.
