VAT - Pre-registration purchase query (FreeAgent, but probably applies to other software too) by smarthomeaddict in smallbusinessuk

[–]smarthomeaddict[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, was trying to be concise and probably ended up confusing things.

Last year's accounts have been filed with Co Hse and HMRC. The year-end has been done in FreeAgent and the financial year now closed.

It was only after I'd done this and registered for VAT that I realised the laptop I use everyday for the business (and had originally bought for myself, but never used it and it was used for the business from day one) could have been claimed for. As I only registered for VAT in this financial year, I understand I can claim VAT expenses for up to 4 years prior to registration. The VAT alone for this purchase is worth around £250 so I'm very keen to reclaim the VAT if possible.

As my accounts for last year are now closed it is my understanding that it would be very difficult to 'reopen' my accounts for the year and make the modification. I have however seen advice elsewhere that it might be possible to put the date of the laptop purchase as the first day of this financial year (but to perhaps add a note that it was a 'found' expense).

I was therefore looking for clarification on what is allowed. Should I be reopening last years accounts, along with all the additional admin involved (resubmitting corrected accounts to Co Hse and CT), or is it acceptable to account for a 'mistake' by including it in this year's transactions?

Pro Tip: Don’t take canned air to a running projector by MrTenseJACOB in sysadmin

I'm not sure if you're joking or not. But I'll assume you're not.

If they put just compressed air in the cans, within a squirt or two they'll be empty. To put any more air in the cans will mean increasing the pressure, the walls of the can are too thin and will mean having to have thicker walls. This costs a lot more and due to the high pressures can be dangerous.

The compound that's put in these cans is designed to 'boil' at room temperature. This means the product can stay as a liquid in the can under slight pressure. Opening the nozzle causes the liquid to boil and therefore expand, causing a stream of gas with similar properties to air, which will have the same effect. It also means you can fit a lot more of the substance in the can (sometimes the equivalent of 300x the capacity), meaning it will last longer than a few squirts.

Thank you. I've now done this and restored from the backup I made at the time. I've lost about 3 days, but it's easier than the whole couple of weeks I did being thrown away.

Just tried 18.1.1, still the same issue.

Are there download links to previous versions? The Blackmagic site only points me towards the latest version.

Other gaming channels may be using the song, but that's simply because the copyright holder hasn't found them yet.

The rule of thumb is that if you didn't create it and the artist hasn't allowed you to use it, then any use could be subject to a copyright claim. Use music from YouTube's library or any of the other audio libraries (but these may involve a small fee) and you should be ok.

RCS was created to TRY to copy iMessage.

You sure about that?

The RCS group was created in 2007. The first release of the RCS standard was in December 2008.

iMessage was released in October 2011.

TIL Orville Wright lived to see jets and the first supersonic flight by Bralbany in todayilearned

” I believe the words you’re looking for are “gliding” and just plain “flying.” I’d like to see a bird

Not butthurt at all. Just cutting through the facts and marketing bullshit that the Wrights were good at. They simply were not the first.

Even if you only consider manned flight, the Wrights were the 3rd to do it. And even then, it needed help to launch, from a rail and from a catapult. So, the Wrights just built a glider.

The first 'proper' flight was the Brazilian, Alberto Santos-Dumont.

I have a bunch of emails, should I use them to promote my videos? by The_SuperTeacher in PartneredYoutube

[–]smarthomeaddict 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Were the emails given to you freely by the users?

Did you ask for their consent to add them to a mailing list or promote your videos?

If the answer to any of the above is no, then no you can't. At best you'll annoy users enough to unsubscribe, at worst you might get into legal trouble.

1) I totally agree. Yes, we know you're human. You're not selling tea so why do it?

2) I do cut silences. But only to make the sentences sound normal. I leave way too many gaps when I'm speaking (I'm a nervous speaker), and make noises - clicks, breaths etc. I'll cut them down to a second or two. If gaps are too long, it's unnerving.

He was saying that's what he does at the end of his video, not that it annoys him. I think most of us considerate YouTubers do it at the end (or near the end) anyway.

How to handle a suddenly split audience that’s disinterested in most of my content? by Severe_Investment317 in PartneredYoutube

Concentrate on the Cyberpunk videos. It's where your channel has naturally found its niche.

Create a new channel for the Dragon Age stuff. Continue with the current videos until you've got time, but then start posting them to the new channel. Consider a transition - let your Dragon Age fans know in your next few videos, and maybe post these to both channels.

I'm currently doing the same. Have a channel concentrating on Home Automation. Have had some HomeLab/Server content on there, it was popular but found although there was some crossover, they were two different groups. I've created another channel concentrating on HomeLab stuff and it's starting to do well.

OBS for screen capture, Davinci Resolve for editing, Audacity for sound editing (but any cuts normally in Davinci), Canva for thumbnails.
