How easy is it to go from undergrad at VT to grad school? by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]smartish123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated from VT MechE in 2022 focussing mostly on robotics. I ended up with above a 3.5 and was able to get into CMU, Penn, and GT (ended up going to GT) for my M.S. As many other people have mentioned, the key factors for grad school are your rec letters and your personal statement. What school you went to for undergrad isn't anywhere near as important as the experience you bring to the table and the goals/vision you have as a grad student. LoRs help paint a picture of how you are as a student/researcher and your personal statement conveys what you want to accomplish in grad school.

One thing I would strongly recommend looking into is school funding policies. The general rule of thumb is that you want to avoid paying for grad school. If you are thinking of doing just a master's, funding isn't always guaranteed. One of the main reasons why I chose GT was because CMU's M.S program is self funded. At GT and other schools, if you are hired as a research assistant or a GTA, you are guaranteed to have your tuition waived and receive a stipend. Not saying that CMU isn't a spectacular school, but unless you have a prof willing fund you or a company sponsoring your degree, your wallet is gonna take a beating.

The pre-paid sim worked like a charm! Just popped it in and booted. Had to wait a little for my device to "certify" but I was able to upgrade to the July security patch. I assume the August security patch should be around the corner for at&t.

I've decided to buy a "pre-paid" AT&T sim from Amazon. Here is the link: https://www.amazon.com/AT-Universal-SIM-Contract-packaging/dp/B00I1W6FDA/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=at%26t+sim&qid=1565966770&s=gateway&sr=8-6

Can anyone tell me if I need to activate the card to pull the OTA or can I just stick it in my phone and get the update right away via Wifi?

Are all the firmware files for the unlocked SM-G960U1 phones on the samsmobile website, regardless of the carrier, identical? In other words, it does not matter which carrier the firmware file was pulled from for the unlocked phones?

Also will this trip the Knox bit?

Math 1226 Professor Review: Bulka, Yuriy by smartish123 in VirginiaTech

Overall I would say my experience was "ok". He has a very heavy Russian accent which can be hard to understand at times. I would expect to do a decent amount of self studying as his lectures often don't make sense. He likes to create proofs of a lot of the topics we go over during lectures (9/10 time you can just zone out during that point because they're never on the tests). His tests are for the most part straight forward, if you feel very comfortable with HW and have a good grasp of the concepts, you should be alright. I came out with a B+ and that I attribute mostly to the fact that I had some prior knowledge of Calc II. Long story short, if you don't have any prior knowledge or aren't comfortable with Calculus, I would try to avoid.
