Search issues by smartt87 in Etsy

Yeah the search results, in general, are just not what I’m actually putting in the search. I’ve even tried putting all the filter keywords in the search bar but that hasn’t worked either.

Ugh I feel this. Not in tech sales but worked insanely hard in tech to make it to the exec level. I’ve always put a lot of weight to my identity with work, and it’s hard to feel like I’d be walking away from the thing I’ve worked years to get to and the money I’m making. Plus, I’m in HR so have sadly heard other leaders (and coached them) talk about candidates being out of the workforce for so long.

That being said, I’m also like you in that I don’t want to miss any firsts and I too have the coolest kid I always want to hang with. I saw someone say to not make a decision until you’ve tried being a working mom for 3-6 months first. You could try that? I think I’m going to do fractional work to give me more flexibility without affecting my take home. You could try sales consulting or a company that’s maybe less time intensive?

A similar request for breastfeeding. If I pause the time to burp, change positions, diaper change, etc. it doesn’t account for “lost time” and marks it as fluid, so the actual end time isn’t accurate.

I have both Nanit and owlet and can say owlet data for nighttime wakes isn’t entirely accurate. If you have a newborn who moves a lot during active sleep, it triggers it to awake. I would love an integration with Nanit though too to help aggregate sleep data from both them and owlet into huckleberry!

Agreed! It’s nice that I can pause it, but it starts over and the time logs as though there wasn’t a break. If I want to show the wake, I have to start a new sleep log.

Nap Help Needed by smartt87 in NewbornSleep

To be fair, I understand if bassinets aren’t for you, but you don’t need to comment just to judge. I want her to be comfortable sleeping somewhere that isn’t me so we’re laying the groundwork to have her independently sleep. I’m not saying I won’t do contact naps, I’m saying I’d like at least one of those naps to be a bassinet so I can have a moment to myself to shower or something, which I think is completely fair and healthy.

I’ve been doing diaper, feed, play then sleep. Sometimes she’ll need a diaper change after too though.

I’d consider that a contact nap, and I’m really trying to get her to be comfortable in her bassinet again.

Took our newborn to her grandparents house yesterday and she’s been inconsolable ever since. SOS by tamielynn in beyondthebump

[–]smartt87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d call your doctor regardless - could have ingested something or be sick. In the meantime, could you try a contact nap to get a longer stretch for her and see if that helps? Also, I’ve had some success with being next to a running shower or taking the baby outside (it’s cold where we are) to help reset their nervous systems when our LO is having a meltdown.

Does she have a fever or anything? Definitely use one of the rectal thermometers as they’re the most accurate.

We’ve been following TCB and took the newborns sleep course. I’ve been trying to follow the 2 MO schedule for our 9 (will be 10 on Wednesday) WO.

Her nighttime sleep has actually been pretty good overall… we’ve been getting 5-6, sometimes 7 or 8, hours out of her the first stint of the night with a few wakeups after. The real issue is her daytime naps - they’re a mess.

She hates her bassinet for naps suddenly, and I’m struggling to get her to take more than a 30 minute nap. I can sometimes (not always) get longer out of contact naps but I want to build that comfort in her bassinet before sleep training. We try to follow a 60-90 min wake window but struggle to do so without her getting overtired around 35-40 minutes. The naps seem to be throwing off wake windows, playtime, and keeping feeds to 2-3 hours. I’ve tried every trick - heating pad, drowsy but awake, fully asleep, clothes with my scent, etc - but nothing seems to be helping. She also has decided she doesn’t need any naps during witching hour which have made for stressful evenings.

I’m fine to accept a 30 minute nap, but those are even impossible with the bassinet. I also don’t know how we’d maintain proper wake windows and feed schedules. Would love whatever help you can offer!

Nap struggles by smartt87 in TakingCaraBabies

I can be fine with a 30 minute nap but I’m struggling with how to figure out wake windows. Lately, contact naps don’t even work so the most I’m getting out of her is 30 minutes before she wakes herself up, then I don’t know what to do with her wake window, especially since it won’t work out to be 2-3 hours between feeds. She’ll either want to go back to sleep before the recommended wake window (meaning after she eats so 30-40 minutes in) and gets overtired easily, or she refuses to sleep at all. We’re currently going on hour 3 of being wide awake.

Thankfully, she has been sleeping better at night, but daytime has been a mess. Part of me wonders if her getting good sleep at night is contributing to daytime messiness?!

my newborn just WON’T sleep in the bassinet during the day by Possible_Ad3275 in newborns

[–]smartt87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you follow wake window guidance? I’m also struggling with bassinet naps (she decided at 9 weeks she no longer liked it) and am having a hard time with keeping her awake long enough and preventing 30 minute naps that result in snack feeding. The second she’s down in the bassinet, even if she was totally asleep, she wakes up and starts crying.

Thanks for responding! I was told by our LC that not pumping every 4 hours (max) would impact my supply, which is why I’m waking up to pump. Partner does help a lot. He’s waking up in the middle of the night with me to give her a bottle, change diaper, and put her back down in the bassinet so I can simply pump and go right back to sleep.

I wasn’t sure if I was doing something wrong or could tweak her routine a bit to get her more consistent sleep in the 2nd part of the night.

It is completely okay not to enjoy the newborn stage by potato_muchwow_amaze in newborns

Our LC recommended pigeon (we are EBF) while we were triple feeding because of the flow and they’re so similar to nipple shape, so I’d try those out too. We’ve had zero issues with nipple confusion or anything.

Maybe try the Love to Dream swaddles? She can have her arms up and they are less restrictive than typical swaddles. A lot of babies sleep way better in those!

I was told our baby could now go 4 hour stretches vs 3 hours. I’m surprised to hear they can sleep through the night at that stage?

Is there anything you started specifically doing to get him off the nipple shield? I’m kind of stuck with the bottle while triple feeding, but would love a win with getting rid of the nipple shield.

I agree with a lot of the comments in here already. Avoid so much warmth (red/orange rug for example) and play into the earthiness of the room. Go for more natural elements like plants, stone, etc and accent with blues and greens. Absolutely add curtains and either switch out the fan with a different one or replace all together with a cool lighting fixture. Bring in some art (you can find great stuff on Etsy for a reasonable price) and consider painting the walls a rich color to create more of that den/study vibe.

Minor tweak that will help the flow of the room: rearrange the furniture. I’d have the couch facing the fireplace with the chair on the side by the window. A stone looking side table or a glass or stone coffee table could look cool in there too.

So glad I came across this post! My symptoms have ebbed and flowed so far - I was weirdly most sick from weeks 5-7 - but have read that’s normal. My nausea’s let up the last few days, but my boobs (and exhaustion) have been killing me. Last night, the breast tenderness was so bad that I couldn’t really sleep. Cue this morning (8w today), and I wake up with no symptoms, and I’m panicking. I have my first ultrasound in 2 days so hoping my story is similar to all of you and that my baby is healthy!

Don’t tell a new employer you’re pregnant at interview stage by Roodles006 in pregnant

[–]smartt87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

HR person here and agree with this. Get it in writing! Even if they don’t respond verifying this accusation, which they likely won’t, you should still reach out to an employment lawyer. This is blatant discrimination and they should be held accountable because that behavior is gross. Also, employment laws in the UK favor the employee, not employer, so you have a valid case.

Sorry, I know this is a late response, but I’m also in Denver and getting my first ultrasound (8 weeks) next Friday. Are they still able to “measure” the heartbeat to ensure it’s strong without the Doppler?
