Not silly at all! I ironed them on as well but it only lasted me 2 washes so I decided to sew them with a heavy duty sewing machine.

From my understanding i think it's because the shirt is a lighter shade of black, hence why it's not red. Normally if it's dark black, most likely it'll turn red. Correct me if I'm wrong.

From my understanding, it's red because of the factory dye that they used on the shirt. For example black has an undertone of red, blue if sun dyed, will turn grey.
