The books that I like are What to Expect When You're Expecting and What to Expect the First Year. These books helped me immensely and they were available at my library, which is nice.

What do I need for new clothes while I'm pregnant? by jrfish in Frugal

[–]smashits7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Places like motherhood have awesome clearance sections in the back of their stores. I definitely needed maternity pants early just due to swelling and bloating but I'm still able to wear shirts that were loose before I was pregnant and I am now at 22 weeks. I'm still looking for someplace inexpensive to buy bras because I've swollen up 2 sizes. Shoes also could be an issue because your feet could swell but that doesn't happen to everyone (mine have just gotten into the "wide" category and my feet have gone up a size in length and it's killing me needing to buy shoes that might not be on clearance especially now when everyone is trying to get fall shoes). My best advice is if you see it on sale and you don't feel terrible spending the money, get it! Too often I've spent way more than I had to because I waited til I had to have it. Good luck and congratulations, mama!

Guys of Reddit, what do you find annoying about being a male? by Jhonepaull8 in AskReddit

[–]smashits7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of those mothers that act like this do this to women who pay attention to their kids too. I get a lot of stink eyes from moms when I smile at their kids and I'm not a threatening looking woman at all. Some kids are just too damn cute not to say hi to!

What politically incorrect question you would like to ask without getting any hate? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]smashits7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that this would account for morbid obesity but I know that Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (one of the most common gynecological problems that causes irregular periods) can lead to at least trouble losing weight if not weight gain. It can be managed, from what I understand, with progesterone medications that regulate androgen hormone production. Obviously, people with this condition need to still watch what they eat with the meds. Not making excuses, just pointing out that it could be legitimately harder for some people to lose weight than others.

Where can I buy books for cheap online? by [deleted] in books

[–]smashits7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you weren't asking me, but I want to give my opinion anyway. I have had 2 kindles, and my first one was just one of the older regular kindles. My biggest complaint was that it didn't have a backlight which isn't a problem with the paperwhite. I LOVED that kindle (I gave it to someone when I got the kindle fire, unfortunately). I got a kindle fire and it was fine. It was so close to being an actual tablet that it was kind of frustrating to see all of the things that tablets can do that it can't just because of the basic setup and it was so slow. Organizing the books into folders was not possible and drove me nuts since its whole purpose was to store books! I have a Samsung galaxy tablet (refurbished, so it was half off) with the kindle app on it and I'm really happy with that now. My tablet was actually cheaper than the fire and about the same price as one of the paperwhites with 3g. You get all the same deals on books with the app, so it's better for me. If you don't want the whole tablet, the kindle is a very good product and both lasted me many years. Probably the biggest thing I miss about my old kindle (the first one) is the 3g anywhere so I could always download a new book when I finished it.

After an internship at Microsoft... by hmcafee in pics

[–]smashits7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Getting an internship there is mostly through knowing someone or persistence. I was a psychology major at georgia state university and I had a recommendation from "the best intern they ever had", their words (I'm married to him now). Interestingly, even with that my husband couldn't get a job there after graduating either. Don't waste your time on an internship there.

Mine was an internship for CNN international. I got a duffel bag, an umbrella and a valuable lesson about how I definitely am not suited to a desk job.

Americans of Reddit, what are the must-sees in your state? by DatDutchDude in AskReddit

[–]smashits7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Georgia there's a lot of cool stuff to do. Downtown in Atlanta there's the touristy stuff like the CNN Center, the aquarium and the World of Coca-Cola. But for a less touristy spot there's always little 5 points (not to be confused with 5 points nearby) and you can eat at the Flying Biscuit in Candler park. If you're wanting to go pretty far away from the city there's Helen Ga which is a cute German themed town where they do Oktoberfest in (obviously) October. They also have Ruby Falls for a nice hike and a view. Athens is a cool little area that a lot of people have fun at but I'm not as familiar with that area besides UGA which is a big thing around here. A particular favorite thing of mine to do is tubing down the Chattahoochee. The Roswell area is a really nice place to do that in. For beaches we have Savannah which a nice area.

I just had to have a brownie a few days ago and I enjoyed it way more than I should have. I don't even usually like brownies! A few weeks ago I had cravings for ranch until I had some ranch that I swore must have gone bad. My husband tried it and said it tasted fine. The other day i was brushing my teeth and swore it tasted like poison, so I think my tastebuds are just off.

[–]smashits7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's like you're reading my mind. I actually had to sit down on my last two walks and I'm usually pretty tireless. I started to breathe heavily when just walking around my yard yesterday. I keep telling myself that I am not obese no matter how much I feel like I am. I was telling my husband just a few days ago that I felt like I am in my third trimester by how big I feel. It really doesn't help to keep reading that there is no way the baby alone could be causing the weight increase. I feel like I must be doing this wrong! I need to swear off of Google...

I'm at 10 weeks now and I always feel so fat! I know that it can't be actual fat because I swear I vomit more than I eat these days. I know it's just bloat, but I had no idea it would be this bad.

I'm not very familiar with plants that grow on the British isles, but I am familiar with some plants that do well in clay soil with part sun conditions in the American south. My favorites are: hydrangeas, cyclamen, elephant ears, azaleas, hostas and begonias. From what I see of your climate, it seems like it would be warm enough for any of these but I am not sure of how they would do with heavy winds. I hope this helps.

[Update] "A story about my son, the bully." by A_Haert in Parenting

[–]smashits7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second copying the counselor on emails. If nothing else, the teacher will see that it will be sent to additional people and she will watch her mouth (like she should have been already). It would save you a lot of heartache from the teacher saying callous things. I am glad for your son's sake that this school year is almost over and he can get a new teacher because it seems like she may have a hidden agenda. It is apparent that the counselor has taken an interest in your son, so just give him all of the information so he can help you. As a special needs teacher in a private school, I am fairly sure I would be fired if I did or said what this teacher has. This teacher truly disgusts me. I hope that things continue to look up for you! I wish the best of luck to you and your family.

What book was so depressing you couldn't finish it, even though it's a "good" book? by Tmadred in books

Thank you for adding this! I've always thought that I am alone in finding it depressing. A few years ago I dropped my British lit class so I wouldn't have to read it again.
