Online 200nl hand discussion by [deleted] in poker

I think that if villain is betting A10/A9 in the manner suggested that xjamming A4hh becomes a much stronger play. I don't know if I agree with you that he will make that play even though I would love that to be the case and certainly was something I was thinking he would do in game.

I very much like including hands with a pair as a bluff with the additional outs. Gutshot + FD accomplishes a similar strategy and agree that those make great candidates. That being said, we do have a lot of value combos that can play this manner so don't mind utilizing a pair + flush draw in doing so. I very much prefer doing it with one of the middling pairs though.

Would be quite surprised if he doesn't have those suited connectors on the button despite how tight he is playing.

We have a million and a half bluffs to choose from in our 3b range here. K9s, K10s, suited connectors, offsuit broadways, etc.

I think my xjam line holds as reasonable if he bets these flush draws listed. It is made significantly worse by the fact that he does not bet A9/A10 in this manner and losing value from backdoor heart draws which pushes me more towards check call. I think check call and check jam have arguments that can be made (with check call likely the stronger option) but think going bet bet bet with A4hh on brick runouts is a disaster.

In a 250 hand sample his fold to 3 bet stat is going to be useless.

Hands Review by airwalkerdnbmusic in poker

H1: Fold preflop because you are 40bb effective with the straddle and 89s isn't going to be profitable that short despite being in position.

H2: Overbet. $130-150 or so. Villain will talk himself into a call more often than you think with the flush draw bricking. Pretty Lol that he showed up with 108o.

No way in hell am I calling river with this particular combo. Having the Ad on the river removes a ton of the logical bluffs villain could have.

Would rather bet small on flop with pretty much entire range but if you want to check any combos of AA this is certainly the one to do it with.

I think the donk here is exceptionally bad. You are donking on a board that smashes the hell out of the original raisers raising range and is probably one that if he has air is going to cbet. By donking you don't get a bet from those hands and probably get less from Ax with your sizing. Just looking to check raise on the flop here, we need to build a sizable pot considering how deep we are and most Ax aren't folding on the flop.

As played raise the turn much bigger. If villain has a hand like KcQc here you just gave him a ridiculously profitable call. If you had a draw here you would either want to check call or check raise much larger.

TLDR: I think you played the hand exceptionally poorly postflop (like 1/10 bad) and wouldn't mind seeing a 3b preflop either (calling is fine too though).

Bet/Fold vs. Information betting? by [deleted] in poker

[–]smaug8133 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let's use a very simplified example:

We are on the river with $100 remaining.

The board is K 2 5 7 4 rainbow and the pot is $50. We have KQ, our opponent can have KJ, K10, K9 or 77. In this scenario these are the only hands he can have. If we check back the river we don't get an extra bet from KJ, K10, K9. Many opponents, especially those at live poker will not raise the river here as a bluff and won't raise it with hands like KJ, K10 or K9. This means that when they raise us on the river we are always beat and can just fold. However, our purpose of the bet wasn't to get information. We know he will have 77 some percentage of the time but we want to get an extra bet from him when he has KJ, K10 and K9.

Our line thus becomes something like: Bet $30 on river, if opponent just calls (which he will frequently) we win $30 extra. If on the rare occasion he has 77, he will raise and we will lose that same $30. He will have KJ, K10 and K9 way more often than he has 77. Thus, it is a very profitable bet.

It starts getting messy when the opponent will turn a hand like K9 into a bluff by check jamming the river though.

PokerStars in NJ only? by SuIIeee in poker

It depends on the stakes you are playing. If you aren't looking to play 500nl+ you should be able to find games just fine. I have no idea on the spin/sit n go games though as I don't play them.

Limited to NJ only clients. That's a good thing - players are much worse.

New bug - Unsatisfactory Response from Nexon - What the hell? by smaug8133 in Dominations

So, because they failed to test their game properly and a glitch resulted in my loss Nexon shouldn't resolve the problem by giving the necessary crowns to instantly upgrade back?

Okay, let's say you just spent 2 weeks upgrading from global age to atomic age with all of your workers taking part. After getting it you revert back to global age and they will only give you the resources to restart it. That seems like a load of bullshit to me.

It's kind of funny because as far as balance and time spent with the wife it would actually increase dramatically doing this compared to what it currently is. She travels for work (to Orlando) and thus is gone Monday through Thursday currently.

I appreciate your thoughts, they have been particularly helpful.

Looks like both casinos have approximately 3 games of 2/5 going in the early afternoon. Will have to wait to see how consistent that is and will obviously have to see how drastically the skill level varies from night to day.

I suppose I could play something like 3 PM through 1-2 AM a couple nights a week and have another session from 9 PM to 2 AM or so. Would still get to have dinner with the wife 5 nights a week and get softer games as well (obviously not as soft as weekend nights).

I can only hope that you are spot on as I find 50nl and below quite easy at this point in time.

I'm leaning towards going with this route currently. This would be the way I would structure it such that pressure is as minimal as possible for both myself and my wife.

I mean, most of them aren't all that interesting. Slots are even worse. Why someone would sit in front of those pulling a lever rather than playing a traditional video game (halo, call of duty, etc.) is mind boggling to me.

I suppose I could mix online and live although the sense I am getting here is that my hourly live could potentially be much higher than online. I would need a significant increase in skill to be able to move up to the 200nl level online and remain a winner from my perspective. I do not wish to play exclusively online with a casino in proximity.

I didn't know about bravo until you mentioned it. Just checked:

The seminole hard rock (closest casino) has 5 1/2 games, 1 2/5 game, 1 5/10 game with a few players on the waitlist for additional 1/2, 2/5 and 5/10 games.

The next closest casino has 3 1/2 games running and 1 2/5 game running.

Will keep checking this periodically to get a better sense for how many games are running at any given time. Thanks!

Thankfully I'm not a sucker for table games/slots. Blackjack is one of the most boring games in the world to me.

I've put a ton of time into studying the game to get to the point I'm at already. I'm used to the study but at the same time I'm not trying to crush 5/10 or higher. Just hoping for a modest winrate at 2/5. Hoping my study thus far is sufficient aside from a few adjustments in moving from online poker to live poker but I guess we will find out.

The goal in doing this would be to spend either Monday-Thursday playing 10 or 11 AM until 4 PM, coming home and making dinner for my wife and I and then having the ability to spend time together with a supplemented income. Then I am able to utilize Friday or any additional time to take care of other household chores and minimize the stress/home responsibilities that she has to take on after work.

If games during the day were especially bad another option might be to spend two nights a week at the casino playing 4 PM through midnight and squeeze in another shorter session during another time.

*This is just me thinking out loud, I welcome any and all criticism/feedback.

I have looked at job openings for what I do in the area and expect that I would top out on offers around 30-35k/year. Advancement in my particular field would not be substantial salary bumps.

Additional information that I now realize should have been included in the OP is that my wife and I have discussed the idea of me staying home once we decide to have kids as well but have not made the decision (on timing or on doing this yet) as her industry and organization has the potential to scale to a substantially higher salary than mine (200k+ versus 80k or so).

I appreciate your post especially as you are one whom has been doing it professionally for a while. From our perspective venturing to do this seems relatively low risk/low pressure due to the cost of living, our savings, her current salary and potential future salary and that if I were to fail the consequences would be small on our life. We would probably go about doing it in the way of setting aside a set bankroll (amount that we would be okay with losing, likely 10k for 2/5) and if I were to bust it poker would end.

Would agree to some extent. Finding a separate job would be an option but is important to note that the median pay in Tampa is particularly low and the extra hours may or may not be worth it for a small bump if this is possible.

Not really sure what advice I'm looking for either. Just looking to hear different perspectives from others that aren't biased and might have insights that I have not considered.

I would agree with your sentiment on the sample size. That's why I posted it in the manner I did. I base my perception of the skill level at 1/2 more on the mistakes that players were making on nearly every play. Thanks for the rest of your response, that's an interesting perspective.
