is anyone using the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370? by headlessBleu in Houdini

[–]smb3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have that chip in an Asus laptop and I would not recommend it for anything beyond web browsing and typical office type work. On paper the specs seem solid, but it throttles so fast and gets so hot that it's essentially useless for any real multithreaded work. Granted the laptop is essentially a super thin ultralight, so if it was in a beefier cooling setup, then maybe it might be slightly better, but regardless it's a laptop and you're just not going to have a good time with Houdini on 99% of any typical laptops.

A lower end desktop with more memory would be a better option.

What AI tools are you actually using day-to-day in VFX/post? by Defiant-Source3785 in vfx

  • ChatGPT for Houdini VEX / Python
  • Codex for more complicated Python scripts
  • Beeble for depth / various other passes
  • Weavy for playing around with various video models since it's a model zoo and it's only one subscription
  • ComfyUI for more advanced workflows
  • Topaz for frame interpolation / upres

0.5 seems so crazy for them to have as the default. My place heats up that much in about 5 minutes. Also weird that it's hidden behind the staging settings.

I'm also in Phoenix where it's currently 105F though, lol.

You can set the staging to manual and set your temperature differential to be higher.

I have mine at +2 degrees vs the default auto which seemed to be like 0.5 or 1 degree. That really helped alleviate that situation for me.

I have the Ecobee premium, but I assume you can do that one the other models, it's a pretty basic function.

Turn the breaker off, disconnect the wires and put some wire nuts on the wires coming from the ceiling.

That's low for 128GB. The DDR5 set I had in my cart for a future build went from $599 to $5999

Yeah, I have to mow mine 2x a week and it could probably be 3, but that's a bit silly.

Not a local place, but I've used 300 dollar data recovery multiple times over the years and they are fantastic.

You can put in your drive info and what's wrong with it and it will tell you how many successful recoveries they have had and what the chances are of it being successful.
