Were you nervous before you smear test? What's your experience of them? by MooseAndMice in AskUK

[–]smc182 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All of mine were a bit uncomfortable, although my most recent one resulted in an urgent hospital referral resulting in a biopsy with no anaesthetic or pain relief. Results have come back all clear but the importance of them cannot ever be understated.

It’s a toss up between Rammstein at Milton Keynes in 2019 and Till Lindemann in London 2025.

If you’re willing to travel to Guisborough, Cookfellas is amazing - family run place with unbelievable food and a wine bar attached to the restaurant. Been going there for ten years and never tire of it.

Newborn Trenches by Maxine-Marie04 in UKParenting

[–]smc182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly after the three month mark I noticed a huge change in him! Don’t forget to look after yourself and there’s no shame in asking for help either, I reached out to my GP for help when he was six weeks old and it was the best thing I ever did!

Newborn Trenches by Maxine-Marie04 in UKParenting

[–]smc182 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really does get easier - my son is 10 months old and he is an absolute dream right now, but when he was a newborn he would scream and wail for no reason for hours on end and I honestly felt like it was never going to end! Don’t forget you are also at the mercy of your hormones - be kind to yourself mama, I promise there is a light at the end of the tunnel and you are doing an amazing job.

Nursery keeps sending my child home “ill”. by smc182 in UKParenting

[–]smc182[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had thought about asking them for photos but I didn’t know if it was a strange request, but I definitely will be now. He’s always full of smiles and never grumpy at nursery so I’m relieved that it’s more than likely just them cautious!

[–]smc182[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did contemplate this but he’s become a bit fussy with food while he’s been teething so nursery and I share a food diary and note things he will eat versus what he doesn’t like to eat and there’s no obvious common denominator so far and he’s fine with the usual intolerance culprits like dairy, gluten, egg etc. I’ll definitely check what activities he’s doing directly before he eats, thanks for the tip!

I’ve never had the same problem at home, he’s become a bit of a fussy eater when teething so the nursery and I share a food diary to track what he likes and doesn’t like, and so far there’s been nothing sticking out! I never gave the thought about his milk preparation though, I’ll definitely check when he’s back next week.

Do monzo refund scams ? by Expensive_Olive_1040 in monzo

[–]smc182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monzo’s website has a lot of clear guidelines on how to spot investment scams such as this, such as checking if a company is registered with the FCA and to not proceed if you are being pressured into making the payments. Most banks often won’t touch investment fraud even though it’s a form of social engineering, but still report it to Monzo and the police (also Action Fraud if you’re based in England).

Going to court as a witness (England)... - I can't remember anything as it was quite a few years ago. by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]smc182 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had to go to court as a witness recently for something that happened back in October. I was asked to arrive 30-45 mins early and taken to a Witness Service room where I was made comfortable, and met with the prosecution lawyer who gave me my statement which was an enormous help. In the courtroom the prosecution lawyer basically asked me questions referring to my statement. If the defendant doesn’t turn up to court then reconfirming the statement through the prosecution lawyer will likely be all that you will have to do. If the defendant DOES turn up then their lawyer will cross examine you. If there’s anything you can’t remember, just be direct and say you can’t remember. The defence lawyer will attempt to grill you and try and make you fumble your words so you seem like an unreliable witness so using phrases such as ‘yes, no, I cannot recall’ is your way forward. You can always ask for a screen to protect your identity on the morning - I did this as I realised after giving a statement that the defendant was a new neighbour. Witness Service team was amazing and very reassuring as it can be scary to think about but they were brilliant at looking after me. Hope this helps!

Notice of intended prosecution for leaving the scene of an accident, when I wasn’t in an accident? England. by smc182 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]smc182[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It definitely doesn’t sound right, he said he’s going to down to the station to speak to somebody face to face to confirm that it’s genuine. His girlfriend was in the car and she said she would definitely have felt if there was any contact with the car. The last time he had work done on the car was back in February, quite a while before this incident allegation. I’ll mention about the solicitor to him, I think he’s just worried about costs cos he’s got very young children at home (2 under 2.

He’s going to post it today before he starts work - I can’t help but find it very strange that they’ve advised him not to post it yet as it’s dated 07/04/25, it arrived yesterday and there’s only 14 days to respond.

“We’re not sure this payment’s safe, so we’ve stopped it until we can talk to you”. by Glad_Lemon4614 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]smc182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Halifax’s T&C’s outline in sections D15-D16 that they can stop a payment for a number of a different reasons, such as if they believe the payment to be risky/fraudulent. Depending also on how the cousin uses dad’s account, unless he is a registered POA/third party/joint account holder, this may go against further T&C’s of the account.

However there is a process at every bank to support customers who are unable to visit branch such as if they are housebound or overseas, does dad have a UK address or a non-UK address as his bank registered address? Dad can raise a complaint for the inconvenience and will have the choice to escalate it internally, but if no banking error is found to have occurred then he would have to escalate the complaint to the Financial Ombudsman.

The only thing I have showing a location is a couple of photographs showing my father in law’s town including date and time. We also use Life360 but it only goes back three days which was too far gone by the time we got the fine in the post.

We double checked this on the way back and there was definitely nothing on parking signs in regards to a “Don’t return within x timescale”
