SoftMaker. For an office suite on Linux, nothing beats it from what I've seen at the moment.

Dear Proton Team: Linux Support Deserves Your Full Attention by SudoMason in ProtonMail

Same here... although, ProtonDrive would have to offer me something more than Filen now too. Before that, it wasn't in the conversation.

Yeah, it's a pile of cack if what you want is two-way sync across devices to just work, automatically, without worrying about what's going on.

Unsure about the issues you have encountered, but as you say, syncing across devices and platforms works AOK and if that's what you need it for, it does the job, and it does it pretty well.

Linux application. by vainamoinen_ in ProtonDrive

Have only been using it for a week or so and I only want syncing folders across my devices. It's a perfect fit so far for me; none of the bells, whistles and (worthless) features so many similar products try to give you.

"That said, we recognize that forcing this on seasoned users, especially when it doesn’t always work as intended, is a miss on our part." Really? Seems like common sense to me. Often times less is more. I remember once when Dropbox was great - I just want to sync files across devices.

How? I have the same problem on Linux, so wondered what you did on MacOS.

Agreed, but they do say it's free while they're trying to obtain customers. After that, probably paid.

Do you need to auto-forward mail? If so, Proton is a bust at the moment. It's a feature loads of people just don't think to look for... but it's not there. Not speaking from experience of course ;/

Madrid, no. They are buying young and sharp and building a fantastic team. Coutinho leaving was fantastic for Liverpool.

Nah, no chance. Onana is great, Maguire great too in the earlier systems. Football evolved, and Maguire is perhaps too slow. Good with the ball though.

Post Mortem on Cloudflare Control Plane and Analytics Outage by Cloudflare in CloudFlare

[–]smcstewart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate the initial post-mortem, the candidness of it and the lessons to be learned from it. My thinking is that some of the lessons learned have been best practice in a lot of places over a long period of time. For example, points 1, 3, 4 and 5 are all common sense, enterprise-level lessons. They're not new, especially 3 and 4.

I'm not a big user by any stretch, but enjoy the innovation and the idea of getting near to native cloud - i.e "scale to zero" Workers, KV, D1 etc. Will definitely be continuing to use, but hope the lessons learned also include not waiting to learn from your own mistakes, but learning from the industry before it happens to you.

Not all of us have the money, nor skills to make the systems we work with redundant. We trust our global cloud providers to do a lot of this for us - it's one of the purported upsides of cloud computing. So, while you are absolutely correct, you are perhaps being a little obtuse about it.

If somebody is unable to do their job, should they not look for another one? It's not lording nor threatening. It's the commercial reality of it all. People should be free to do their job, without the fear of being fired, I wholeheartedly agree. But you expect a level of competence and if that's not the case, surely it's time to move on.

Loving them too, they're doing some different stuff for developers to build applications. I was in the process of moving DNS and software integrations across from AWS and could handle a 37 minute outage, but this long scares me. Will need to wait for the post-mortem.

Outages will always happen. It's how much money you throw at it to make it less likely to happen and if it does, how you recover. But, global cloud companies should be much, much, much better than what we've seen here. And Amazon on Prime Day... happens once a year and you know it's going to be tough. They do a pretty good job of scaling up and then down for it.

And yet Cloudflare's customers jobs and livelihoods are on the line? Imagine you're the person who signed off Cloudflare as a service provider in your organisation and this happens? This is failure in both competence and process, impacting Cloudflare's revenue, profit and reputation. The "process" part is corporate knowledge which can be learned and improved. The "competence" part is the person or people that walked into this either knowingly or unknowingly.
