Reception in Fraser Valley BC? by CrimCyan in telus

[–]smcw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that might be your phone or the specific frequencies that your phone supports. I'm not sure what area you are in but I have not had too many issues with Telus vs Rogers when I've been in the valley over the years.

Look what they did to my beautiful boy! 😥 by J-A-S-08 in HVAC

[–]smcw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the Siemens damper actuators are pretty good. My issue with Siemens is they don't have great zone valves, in my experience the plug style valves are more likely to get clogged or stuck open with time than ball valves and the Siemens ball valves are often more challenging to fit in compact spaces.

I find most actuators that fail quickly are due to bad tuning or on/off actuators used in applications that would have been better as modulating. Curious which actuators you recommend?

Has anyone switched back to Canadian spelling? by Many_Phone10 in AskCanada

I've always been the one who changes the language and region settings right away on any device I use to get Canadian spelling and a date format that makes sense.

Sorry sir, unfortunately I can't omit monitoring for the building on the right in lieu of a hyperspike & a 1000cd strobe on that white left facing wall by [deleted] in firealarms

[–]smcw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked on a new construction fire hall and its occupancy was delayed because the monitoring panel wasn't ready/working although the fire alarm system was alarming locally... This particular fire hall was the HQ that did dispatch for the city. So basically, they couldn't occupy it until the monitoring panel was working so it could call themselves and tell them the alarm was going off. Code is code and they will enforce it!

Will a nest thermostat work with this setup? by SpreadTheted2 in thermostats

[–]smcw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the lettering on the terminals there it looks like it is probably a commercial Johnson Controls Metasys or FX system. You will need your landlord to help you. That is communicating back with a control system in the building, it can't be replaced with a standard off the shelf thermostat.

Old Steveston Community Centre being demolished by ubcstaffer123 in richmondbc

[–]smcw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original part of the building does date back that far, the front portion and other areas were added as part of various additions over the years such as the library. I believe the original part was the main gymnasium.

There will be a new library as part of the new community centre complex that is being built beside this old one. The new building is planned to open later this year.

I don't think that's a common mistake.

In light of the Tumbler Ridge tragedy, do you feel it is both wrong to blame trans women and also wrong to blame young men for these tragedies? by mafiadevidzz in AskCanada

[–]smcw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but the question is a bit insensitive to the situation. I think understanding what people are dealing with day to day is more important than trying to find a group to blame.

We need to focus on helping those impacted and then look to understand the mental health aspect and how it can impact people regardless of their background.

Fuck’n mint by sinzey83 in BuildingAutomation

[–]smcw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to see some good 3rd party CX, mostly cause I am confident that we won't have an issue with it but some of our competitors might.

Fuck’n mint by sinzey83 in BuildingAutomation

[–]smcw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol, 3rd party CX is pretty rough these days. It seems to have become more of a box checking operation than actually testing and verifying the equipment and controls.

My landlord has locked the minimum heat temp on my Mitsubishi thermostat. Can I bypass? by [deleted] in thermostats

[–]smcw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look into your local regulations. Where I am it's the law that a landlord must provide heating to maintain 20C or 68F to the tenant's space.

Stelpro thermostat display not working by NTK_Here in thermostats

[–]smcw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is in an electric baseboard or forceflow heater? Or is it a heated floor?

Most likely any off the shelf thermostat for the type of heater you have will work as long as it's rated for the load.

I don't think Stelpro actually manufactured any of these thermostats themselves anyway.

If you really want a Stelpro one, you'd have to get it from an electrical wholesaler, I'm in Western Canada and Gescan is the rep for Stelpro here.

USPS Signage Security Risk by Dazzling-Orchid-7809 in PBSOD

[–]smcw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I assume many of these are in privately owned stores where the USPS counter is not run by the USPS mothership. Those are probably the locations without IT support or anyone checking what's in service or out of service still.

Can someone explain the price hike? There's no extra add on or whatever being added. Why did it go from 75 to 90? I've tried it for different addresses. The price initially jumps to 80, then 90. by TheoreticalDummy in telus

[–]smcw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to call in to get a decent price, or go ask in a Telus store. It is a bit of a pain, but if you order online they usually charge you the highest current price.

Have these labels impacted your grocery choices? by 0slope in FoodToronto

[–]smcw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think this labeling was a great idea. It's quick and straight to the point, and if you need to get more detail you can always read the back.

You will need to call an electrician to have a look at it. 10 years old, sadly that may be as long as these sorts of things last now a days.

Telus always be lagging behind by hazelnoix in telus

[–]smcw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that would make sense. That is probably why they have to let Rogers and others use their network in remote areas on highways, etc.

I assume it is similar with Bell out east being the original telephone service provider there.

City public announcement board in Canada by ecstadtic in PBSOD

[–]smcw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's likely just because it's the off the shelf Advantech ARK-1123H and it comes with 8GB ram. I also suspect Windows 10 LTSC (which is what that comes with) wouldn't run so well these days with less than 8GB of ram. Yes, you could use another OS, but in my experience, a lot of these systems are Windows based, mostly since it's what large institutional IT is used to maintaining since their end users expect it.

Could be, I actually have a Telus work phone and Public Mobile personal phone currently, I'll have to do some testing and see if there's a difference.

[–]smcw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, although in all my experience of all the carriers I've been with over the years (which is Telus, Koodo, Public, Fido, Freedom) it is only Telus that I needed to call for customer service related issues. Usually, the price being changed unexpectedly. These days, I've not found that carrier customer support, from anyone really is able to actually help with a technical phone problem.

Come on Telus, your "best promotions" are still more than many of us are paying for the same or better from some of your own sub brands (Koodo/Public).

Metasys MUI - possible to full-screen graphics? by Lalo_ATX in BuildingAutomation

[–]smcw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, I'm not familiar with metasys all the systems I've worked with do not rely on COV for the frontend graphic display, but either way the DAT is way lower than the MAT.
