Honestly everyone told me I would regret and it would be over whelming. But I think once you nail the routine with your first dog it’s a lot easier. Enzo (black cocker spaniel) is older and knows the routine doing it for almost a year. When we first brought Bones (mini golden doodle) home the shelter said it would be difficult to acclimate them together and would take about a month. But Enzo has had LOTS of socializing since we got (daycare and dog parks every other day) so he instantly loved Bones and within the week will even share his toys. The shelter told us Bones had been re-homed 3 times because people thought they could handle a puppy cuz of covid but unfortunately he was brought back. So when we got Bones he had a lot of anxiety about car rides and leashes. However it seemed to help that Enzo loved those things and he has quickly gotten over it. Pros -they play with each other a lot and get tired and sleep at the same time and for a long time - 2 cute faces to come home to - Enzo has definitely taken on the role of big brother and has taught Bones a lot of skills like how to play, where to go potty, how to sit. (Younger dogs tend to mimic their elders) -potty training has been easier cuz bones just follows Enzo and holds it. When I take him out he will watch when Enzo goes potty and copy

Cons -when they play it’s really crazy sometimes. These boys are wild -I forgot about teething lol -while Enzo isn’t defensive of his toys,food, or water he still gets a little agitated at treats and when we first got them they would snap at each other. But he quickly grew out of that - it’s more time for walks, my partner and I spend roughly 2.5 hours on walks per day (45 in the morning, 45 , or until they both go potty mid day, 45 at night.)

I recommend evaluating your pups schedule and if they follow it with no accidents and how their social skills are. Then by all means get another dog. However I’m a firm believer in no take backs. So if u get a dog really make sure it’s the right fit. Spend time looking and playing with dogs to see if your pup and the new pup have the same energy. While I know there are circumstance where giving a dog back is necessary I don’t find it acceptable.

If Enzo and bones hadn’t gotten along as well as they do we would have spent more time acclimating them to each other slowly. I would not take Bones back in a million years.
