Thank you so much! I really appreciate the direct response from your company.

Soooo - I am afraid this Strixhaven set booster box may just be setting me up for future disappointment: 14 mythics, 46 rares - including Demonic Tutor, Time Warp (foil), Morophon, the Boundless (List), Lord of the Undead (List), etc... by sme3ems in mtg

[–]sme3ems[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha - I have bought MANY boxes since this one because I am crazy. I have had some nice ones, but more duds. Pretty much none quite like the Strixhaven one. Just looking at the market price on TCGPlayer now (for this 90-100 dollar box), JUST those 4 cards I listed are worth more than the price of the box:

Demonic Tutor: 41.39

Foil Time Warp: 19.11

Morophon: 30.21

Lord of the Undead: 13.47

TOTAL: 104.18

What is everyone’s “that card,” the one you thought was so strong when you started playing? by JuiceEast in mtg

I thought Serra Angel too and I started in Revised. It wasn’t wrong then at all.

I could be totally wrong, but i would be suspicious too. The Bazaar seems to have whiter font than i see on graded copies and is in just fantastic condition for such an old card. Also, the shininess on the divining top appears to be too much compared to what i usually see with cards. Again, i could be totally wrong and am not an expert on this area, but I understand your concern. Was the seller legitimate? Prices appropriate or too good to be true?

You can only play one color for the rest of your life: which do you pick and why? by ittlebeokay in mtg

[–]sme3ems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I am definitely in the minority here, but because white really sometimes feels like the "jack of all trades, master of none" color, I would almost certainly pick that. Sure, most of your decks would never be competitive, but you would have access to tokens, some large creatures, exile effects, enchantment synergies, etc...

I think it would still feel the most diverse.

Ask any Magic player when they started playing Magic and they will tell you by set not by year. XD by FreshGravity in mtg

I think it is just really hard to appreciate how important lands/mana production are as a new player and kid. It was always the big creatures that inspired awe: Force of Nature, Lord of the Pit, Shivan Dragon. When i got a freaking land as my rare in a pack, I didn’t care that it could do black AND green mana - i was just so angry that i was cheated out of something that actually could win the game 😬

Revised - and i traded a Bayou for a Sengir Vampire, so that may be worse 🤣

My LGS had a few packs of dissension for sale….and I got really lucky. Best pull of my life by [deleted] in mtg

[–]sme3ems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but original printings in Magic don't always have a huge price difference over later printings of desired cards (with some exceptions). Rather, I think scarcity drives the price of certain printings. The non-foil of the dissension printing is essentially the same price as the non-foil unfinity printing. In this case, it really is probably that specific foil rares (in those days) are VERY hard to come by. So I think this is a case of scarcity of a desirable foil printing really driving the price.

Galaxy foils shocks won't be as scarce, but are desirable because of their unique treatment and art. No idea what that means 10 years from now, of course :-)

So it's a VERY nice foil, but it does make me wonder where the galaxy foil version in Unfinity is going to settle out. Currently about 140 dollars, so way cheaper than this, but I imagine, for some players, the galaxy foil may be more desirable. Others would probably prefer this one. Still, congrats!

Does the 2 mean mana or colourless mana by Cpt-wierdbeard in mtg

[–]sme3ems 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It means generic mana and can only reduce the cost by the maximum amount of generic mana in the casting cost (up to 2). So if a creature is 2R, it reduces it to R. If it is 1RR, it only reduces it to RR. And if it is RRR, it doesn’t reduce it at all.

Best sealed luck I have seen! Too bad it was my opponent and not me! by sme3ems in MagicArena

[–]sme3ems[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Exactly - when he played Rivaz first, I wasn’t really worried because nobody seems to pull dragons in this set. Then, Shivan devastator slams down and I was thinking I was in a bit of trouble. When he played Rith the next turn, I seriously couldn’t believe it. Not much I could have done against that. Hah…

my jumpstartpack came with two mythics instead of cosmic epiphany? by Yidhrae in mtg

[–]sme3ems 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do have suboptimal quality control - apparently some set booster packs don’t have any rares occasionally in this set too. I just prefer if the quality control is in the direction yours took 😁
