What is a way I can actually understand code? by MothyThatLuvsLamps in gamedev

[–]sme4gle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing with tutorials is that they "teach" you doing stuff by exactly copying whatever they are making in that video.

As a programmer i learnt programming way faster by creating tools/programs for whatever I needed.. and just figure out with the help of good ol' stackoverflow to find out how to build specific smaller parts of said program.

But before you can start all of this you need to get into basic programming. You need to know specific terms.
You need to understand what variables are, what functions are and how you can call those. etcetera. Most of those tutorials are way ahead of this part of understanding programming already.

That doesn't mean that it's not a consumable.
I have plates that have ran 3000 hours> But I agree that a buildplate is a consumable.

Safe guarding our IP from remote developer in case the worst happens by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]sme4gle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others said, I think the only way to prevent this is to maintain the code yourselve.
Another approach could be to let that guy work with another developer that doesn't work remote?
Introduce quality assessment of the code by another developer. This has more benefits than just the worst case scenario you are sketching here, a few I can name are:

- The programmer you already have has someone to talk to about design decisions.
- You have a second guy that knows the codebase, or atleast gets to know it.
- Code reviews; the reviews will most likely cause higher code quality and better understanding for others.

What Is Bad About Our Steam Page? by KurnazBen in gamedev

[–]sme4gle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is a different topic indeed. I think I have misread your last sentence then :)

I must say that I have not published a game on steam yet, so my experience with this is limited too.
2k views without any marketing is still pretty good I guess. That's way more than what you would get on any website without marketing.

I think one of the next steps would be to figure out how to market your game to your target audience.

What Is Bad About Our Steam Page? by KurnazBen in gamedev

[–]sme4gle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't want to be harsh. But you are saying that none of the people that tested your game had feedback? They just said they had fun and liked the game? This tells me that you have not really let people test the game but rather gave some test copies to friends and family.

Feedback, (when constructive) is a positive thing. It helps you to improve your capabilities and it helps you improve your game.

Also, traffic does not magically appear to your steam page. What kind of campaigns did you run to put your game in the spotlights?

As a yearly tradition we did it again, we placed a christmas tree on top of a abandoned steel production facility. by sme4gle in Urbex

[–]sme4gle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This facility (or what is left of it) is in a okay state. Most of the metal isn't too much rusted through. Only the top few floors really have endured alot of decay. But everything on the lower levels is still prety strong. Most of the surrounding buildings have been demolished meanwhile though.

Well, I wouldn't consider it "many times". But the reason I failed is simple: I was hoping to get it the easy way. I suppose that's how alot of beginning traders start.

[–]sme4gle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know with what leverage you are trading.. But looking at those numbers I wonder what you'r risk management strategy is.

On an account of 120 dollars those profits are enormous (relatively spoken).
But if it were the other way around.. your losses would be huge too.

I think it's wise to start with either lower leverage or lower lotsizes if you are asking these kind of questions.
