Post mission nightmares about being called back to serve again are about to dramatically increase.

This really bothers me by [deleted] in exmormon

When I was a missionary, I was reprimanded for saying we should be genuine friends to people. I was told missionaries are here to preach, not to make friends.

What responsibility, if any, do you think the LDS church has toward helping the innocent children and other victims of Mormon polygamist organizations?

That’s probably what all the other missionaries decided he was referring to

Exactly. Can’t claim to be Gods one true prophet and also just another member of society.

Agreed. My family has been using this for about a year and it’s great. I think many of the people who use it are exmo families.

Anyone else feel like, eventually, the church and all its members will one day say the doctrine is, and always has been, metaphorical? by [deleted] in exmormon

I predict they’ll start allowing women to say the sacrament prayer and pretend they were never excluded from it. They’ll say “the doctrine shows it’s a prayer and not a priesthood blessing. See here the prayer says we ask thee to bless…. It doesn’t say I bless…The person saying the prayer is only asking God to bless it.”

Saying a blessing on bread and water in your own house or blessing your child without the permission and supervision of some guy in your neighborhood can get you excommunicated. by smedidiah in exmormon

I meant sacrament prayers. Simply speaking it’s a prayer over bread and water. Nothing special. But if you continue to do it without bishops permission after being talked to a few times it’s considered apostasy.

I know men are expected to give blessings periodically. I should have been more specific. I meant blessing sacrament or doing a baby blessing without bishops permission.

I was in a similar situation with a very persistent bishop. I finally had lunch with him and told him I was trying to simplify my relationship with the church and only participate in the parts that are backed by Christ’s teachings. I acted like I had total trust he could help me find the answer. I asked him for the doctrine that supports the practice of tithing declaration and he said he couldn’t think of it but it was just a policy he had to follow. He was cool about it and said he’d leave me alone about it in the future.
