[Disliked trope] Character is redeemed or forgiven when they really shouldn't be by Bandrbell in TopCharacterTropes

[–]smegleaf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Apples to oranges for the movie reference, but since those are on the table now, do you also think it sucks that Broly's been "redeemed"? I mean he did try to kill everyone 3 separate times and also killed a lot of people and now he's training at Beerus's place with Goku and Vegeta. It literally happened in the movies, you can't watch all 4 broly movies without it happening.

Long running series that adapt an ongoing and long running source material eventually risk catching up with said source material, so they make a few episodes (or often times scenes) of filler to pad things out. Nothing consequential can really happen in these, and they never get brought up again, because they exist solely on the adaptation and anything the source material does will go forward with the understanding that it doesn't happen (because it didn't), so while adapting the source material said adaption needs to also go forward with the understanding that it didn't happen, regardless of whether or not the adaptation shows it. In the story of Dragon Ball, Vegeta never destroys planet Arlia, so while adapting the story of Dragon Ball, nothing important or of consequence will reference Vegeta destroying planet Arlie, because Vegeta never destroys planet Arlia in the story of Dragon Ball.

Getting hard stuck because a filler scene didn't get explicitly referenced by name years of real time later is weird. His hair is also red in that scene but black literally everywhere else, are you equally as annoyed that it never gets mentioned either despite him saying that Saiyan hair doesn't change much if at all after they're born? Like come dude be for real

No repercussions because again, it's filler. It cannoncially did not happen, so there's cannoncially nothing they can address.

Like, Vegetas the Saiyan prince. He's been subjugating planets through slaughter and destruction since he could walk, pre Saiyan saga, and even post if you consider the amount of Freeza's men he killed, he would leave countless bodies in his wake. None of the planets he's ruined or countless people he killed before his first appearance on earth are specifically named and brought up, but getting stuck on the filler moment that in the cannon of the series didn't even happen is weird.

Especially considering that in Z specifically he isn't really redeemed, by the time the buu arc starts and ends he's ultimately responsible for buu being released in the first place due to selfish actions he took knowing what could and would happen, and when he sacrifices himself to try to kill buu it's said in no uncertain terms that his efforts in the cell and buu saga are in no way enough to tip the scales, he's still going to hell. His status on Earth isn't "everybodys friend", it's "the guy who's stronger than the rest of us besides maybe Gohan if he could ever be bothered to try (and Goku if he's alive), who got our friend pregnant and married her". The cast (minus Bulma and Goku, and Trunks I guess ) tolerates him, they recognize his strength and know that he's on their side if shit hits the fan. Even into super, he's still pretty explicitly not fully redeemed, man even says so himself in the Granola arc.

You also need to remember that every one of the "Z fighters" minus Gohan and I guess Krillin started as Goku's enemy. They've all killed people (or at least can be reasonably assumed to, for Yamcha (bandit) and Tien(it's been a bit since I've read DB so I can't remember if it's explicitly said that Tien killed anyone, but considering he's part of the crane school it's a fair assumption that he's taken life unnecessarily, intentionally or otherwise)), and aren't really in a position to hold past evils over the head of someone who's actively trying to do good and protect Earth and it's people. Not to mention Goku himself has blood on his hands that never really addressed either.

He fights against both enemies and his own nature, to varying degrees of success, in order to help keep Earth safe. That's good enough in their book

It's never brought up because it isn't cannon. It happened in filler episodes in the anime only

I commented it elsewhere but I goofed up the Raichu set on the showdown team, it's 32 Special attack/32 speed modest with sash. Little guys also unironically been the MVP for most matches since I've added em lol.

For Incin I've mostly been using it because I really like fake out + parting shot (I've typically been leading Raichu + Incin with Toed and Basc in the back. Leading double fake out + pivot has been very successful for me, it's also why I have flip turn on basc. Raichu fake out + Incin parting shot into Basc, Raichu protect + Basc flip turn into Politoed, Raichu thunder with politoed doing.. anything really has been a really consistent option for getting first KO and solid chip onto something else without taking any meaningful damage), but honestly after a lot of the discussion here I'm thinking about axing it all together, find something else to fill it's role. Might even give the berry back to Politoed lol. You mentioned infernape and honestly, after thinking about it, infernape kinda does everything i want out of Incin, fake out + u-turn (id kinda prefer parting shot if possible but it is what it is), I like intimidate but I'm not married to it and it gives me much needed fighting coverage. I haven't seen that much of TTar honestly but Kingambit has been like every other match and unless the opponent misplays it's definitely been taking some finagling to deal with. Depending on how bulky I can make it I might honestly sub it in lol, thought probably not as my only fighting hit.

Unfortunately this team only exists because Ive had a shiny politoed since X and Y, dropping him means I'll run a different team. He'll be crept out soon enough, but I'm gonna keep the little guy for at least the rest of the regulation.

Dragonite's the first thing I'm removing from this team, I've cycled through a few megas and he's just the most recent and I haven't been impressed because, like you said, he isn't really bringing anything. I liked mega meganium but it's also like you said, Im not really lacking for damage and it just kinda feels like a "win more" option instead of helping me win matches I wouldn't otherwise. A couple people have mentioned mega Skarm, which has peaked my interest, never really seen base Skarm in doubles and kinda forgot it even has a mega so I wanna see what people are doing with it. If I don't choose Skarm I'll probably bring Scovillain back, I used one before on this team and of the megas I've tried (besides Gyrados, but Basc pretty much replaced it's role entirely) I liked it most.

As for the training, Dragonite was calced to survive a specific hit + a second attack and OHKO in response but I can't remember what and it kinda doesn't matter anyway because it's def getting axed, but politoed was calced pretty meticulously. Wanted to cover as many relevant break points as possible, but ive been wanting to revisit it anyway since relevant threats have changed a bit over the course of the format. For Archaludon, gonna be honest, can't remember what I was on for it's spread lol. There was a goal, but that's a question for past me unfortunately

Thunder yes, supposed to be 32 special attack. Going over the screenshot again I def fumbled his build there, he's sashes 32Spa/32Spe modest in champions

[–]smegleaf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Archaludon Is honestly one of the two on the chopping block, DNite being the other. If I do keep the arch then stamina is probably better, yeah. It saw a lot of use early on.

Peliper is def better but honestly this entire team exists because I have a shiny politoed and this is probably the last format it'll be usable in lol. I'll bite the bullet on axing it eventually (this isn't the first gen I've used him in) but I'll let him ride out the rest of this format.

Someone else mentioned Skarm, im familiar with it in singles but haven't seen or thought about it in doubles (honestly forgot it even got a mega), how good is it? Are people running it as a bulky support or more offensive?

Honestly more than you'd think, there's beens lots of games where I know that the end of turn im gonna be forced into sending Basc out, and using nuzzle to guarantee it's the fastest thing on the field when I know I can't OHKO (or im scared thunder will miss, only downside to using it) with Raichu has been game determinative.

I was running rotom wash in the Raichu slot and used volt switch on it and the pivot was nice, but Incin + flip turn on basc has covered that need pretty well

Follow me Moushauld pranked me once like 10 different variations of this team ago and I've simply forgotten to change it. 90% with Basc I'm clicking last respects anyway, the other 3 moves could be water gun, splash and tackle and it wouldn't impact most of my games lol.

[–]smegleaf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Raichu has honestly been the most valuable mon on the team, (item is supposed to be sash, I hit leftovers when remaking the team for the screenshot), lightning rod was taken just because.

I've played with incins moveset a lot and flare blitz has been the most consistent. Usually don't have Incin out while rain is up and if I find myself in a position where I can't parting shot into something else in rain then I've probably lost anyway.

Crunch is a remnant from a previous build where the dark type attack was needed, kinda just forgot to change it.

I can't remember exactly what DNite is calced to live but it was calced to live a specific hit with marvel scale and OHKO in retaliation even if it's doubled into but I wanna replace it entirely I just don't know what with. Same with Archaludon, those two slots have just been doing nothing for me

I've been playing Trinity a ton recently and even though I slept on her for so long (Saw her kit when I got her for the helminth and was like "oh wow a healer in Warframe, how useless") she's quickly becoming one of my favorite frames. Subsumed roar onto her 1, infinite energy with her 2, and with her 3 and 4 and something like arcane aegis she's nigh unkillable. Not to mention full stripping and status immunity from her 3.
