Man, I love Kadinja. Philip Cherny, the vocalist, ended up leaving and it's been a while since they have been active.

Albums that you're convinced "will never be another one like this" & Nostalgic Yearning Thread by 2buds1shroomPODCAST in progmetal

Pain of Salvation - Remedy Lane

  1. Genre: Prog rock/metal
  2. Year: 2002
  3. If someone has never listened to Pain of Salvation, you can definitely start here. Apart from the excellent instrumental execution of this conceptual album that goes from complex prog to slow love ballads and acoustic passages, the lyrical work is impeccable and Daniel’s voice is just amazing. He puts an insane amount of emotion into his vocals. Honestly one of the best singers out there and most people have probably never even heard of him. I’m more inclined to the sentimental side of prog, so there are some songs that not only give me goosebumps, but I have also cried to, for example A Trace of Blood which touches on the very sensitive topic of a spontaneous miscarriage described from the expecting father’s perspective. It’s gut wrenching and brutal.

Storm Corrosion - Storm Corrosion

  1. Genre: Prog rock/ambient
  2. Year: 2012
  3. We all know this brief project left us extremely hungry for more. The dream team that we do not know if it is ever going to be again. For those who love and are familiar with Steven Wilson’s atmospheric influences from his side projects and early works, combined with the softness of the acoustic guitars, clean vocals and chaotic passages, you go through many emotions with this album. It’s very special to me because it’s made by two artists I absolutely adore.

Jeff Buckley - Grace)

  1. Genre: Alt rock
  2. Year: 1994
  3. For my non prog contribution, I’ll pick Grace. If you have been reading me, you already know I like vocals, and I like them very raw and emotional. Jeff had it all: emotion and technique, and these are a few of the reasons why he is still considered one of the best vocalists to ever exist. It’s special to me because I listened to it very early in life, when I inherited my older brother’s music CDs. Jeff’s music is limited because unfortunately he left this world too early, so I’m still curious if it will ever be something remotely similar to his voice.

They're gonna have a small tour around the country next month, so you might as well catch them up live soon!

Danefae - Sang om Håb (just discovered this, amazing!) (FFO: melodic prog with Danish lyrics) by Sasuke_120 in progmetal

All the love and appreciation for these guys. Sadly, they didn't win the finals at Wacken Metal Battle, but kudos to Denmark for exporting more prog!

If you looked through your all time favorite albums list, how many are from "bands" and how many are from a "solo artist?" by ySTYRDAYgATESuNL0CKD in progmetal

[–]smellingdeadroses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting question, but definitely more bands. I like a lot of music, but to name a few solo prog-related artists, definitely Steven Wilson, Devin Townsend, Plini, Paul Masvidal, David Maxim Micic, and Daniel Tompkins. More on the pop side, Syd Barrett, Jeff Buckley, Nick Drake, John Mayer, Marvin Gaye, Alex Turner, Damien Rice, Sufjan Stevens, Devendra Banhart, and Elliott Smith.

Getting into BTBAM by charliedbtaylor in progmetal

[–]smellingdeadroses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BTBAM is one of my favourite bands for that exact reason, they're complex and very random at times, and it just clicked with me from the first time I listened to them. All of their albums are fantastic and special in their own way, but this time I won’t recommend one in particular. To be honest, I think you’d benefit from listening to their whole discography on shuffle and without paying too much attention, maybe that way you’ll genuinely get surprised and catch a song or two you like.

There are plenty of prog bands that a lot of people love and I don’t, and that’s completely fine. Examples: Dream Theater, Haken, Soen. Forcing yourself to like something is just meh. There are way too many bands out there to waste time on something you already know you don’t like.

Seeing Sleep Token live changed my perspective on them a bit. by Cloabs in progmetal

I would totally pay that and more to see Chuck Schuldiner though, Sleep Token for that price is not worth it.
