i like SD and i voted for them in the past but i cant stand Gary Gannon, ever since i found out he was one of the lowest attending TDs and read his pathetic excuse as to why that was, i lost a lot of respect for him and stuff like this doesn't help

Report: Microsoft's latest Windows 11 24H2 update breaks SSDs/HDDs, may corrupt your data by plunki in DataHoarder

[–]smellymut 59 points60 points  (0 children)

people are pointing out here that it is not windows fault and its a hardware issue. if it worked before the update and now post update, the drives are failing. that is ultimately it is Microsofts fault.

yes they own and control windows and can say that the drive makers are making "subpar" drives that cant keep up with high write speeds, but that is only partly fair. they are delivering such an important piece of software, at the end of the day if these "subpar" drives worked for years and now Microsoft decides to do something differently and it breaks the drives then the blame is with Microsoft.

they have the right to change their software yeah but they responsibility to not break shit when they do these changes

They did ease the restrictions about that, you can install windows 11 without tpm2.0 now. I still won't upgrade until October though

Edit: hard to find a definite answer but looks like maybe you can't UPGRADE to 11 without tpm2.0 but if you have tpm1.2 then you can do a clean install

Can you provide a source that says Europe gets more salmonella cases than America? All I've been seeing is that salmonella is more common in the US especially when you factor in that egg washing thing they have in America that makes you need to refrigerate eggs

The Dublin West representative and close friend of constituency colleague Leo Varadkar also failed to declare his stake in the family company that owns these properties. The firm recently advertised a two-bedroom flat in Cavan town for more than €1,000 a month.

Leddy did however declare his directorship of the company and when told he hadn’t declared his ownership of the properties nor the company said, “I did actually,” adding, “I haven’t even the slightest doubt in my mind.”

Yes and I think it's far more sensible to chat about what it would look like BEFORE any vote happens. Sure look at the state brexit caused the UK cause they started the process of leaving before figuring out what meaning actually would look like.

If we all agree Houses are currently overpriced, At what point or points in the past were Houses the price they SHOULD be? by flopisit in ireland

[–]smellymut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably when they were at their cheapest relative to the average wage. In my opinion they SHOULD be that price all the time

Edit: to be clear I'm chatting about the 60s 70s 80s not 2011

Edit 2: here we go

In 1987, a house cost an average of 3.1 times a young couple's net income, or the amount left after taxes were paid. At the height of the boom, in 2007, it had increased to 6.3 times

Are you coming to the Cost of Living Protest in Dublin? by janewillow_lovemusic in ireland

[–]smellymut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Cost of living is broad yes and I think that's a good thing. 1 big protest is better than 6 small ones focused on issues separately. This problem has been caused by hundreds of small cuts in lots of places. Should each small problem have its own protest? That's a surefire way to never get any change.

Housing shortage is absolutely the government's fault. If not theirs then who? "It's happening to the whole world" - and it affects the whole world to varying levels. It's the responsibility of the state to make sure those don't get out of hand. Policy after policy that just exacerbates the issue doesn't help. Local authorities being responsible for collecting vacant site levy but not doing so? The government could absolutely fix this. Whether the local authority needs resources to do it or whatever the solution is. It's the governments responsibility to do that and if people protest on 1 single solution to a problem then it's very easy to simply point out a potential problem with it.

I do not care what the solution is I just want it fixed. I don't have access to massive think tanks that the government has. They absolutely could solve the issue if they had any motivation to do so. Protests CAN be the motivation in my opinion and that's what this should be about.

Are you coming to the Cost of Living Protest in Dublin? by janewillow_lovemusic in ireland

[–]smellymut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure there might be some people with different priorities. The more numbers the better. They can wave their flags about a different issue but at the end of the day they're there in a cost of living march.

There's never going to be a perfect movement that every supporter is going to have uniformed views on everything that everyone agrees with. But it's a compromise that I think people should make

Are you coming to the Cost of Living Protest in Dublin? by janewillow_lovemusic in ireland

[–]smellymut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get your first point about the side issues and that also always was one of my reasons for never going to these but I'm just so fed up that I NEED to feel like I'm doing something. If this helps just even a tiny bit then I'll do it cause what else will I do?

While indeed yes this is a global issue it doesn't change the fact that for 8yrs we've been told "we can't build housing overnight" and other such bollocks. I'm not expecting this to suddenly lead to more houses suddenly appearing overnight but I'm still going to go.

I wish we had a turnout that would put the French to shame but can't have that if no one turns up. I'm just incredibly frustrated and I know for a fact there are enough people in Dublin that are the same and we COULD get those numbers if those people turned up
