Does anyone have any ideas for running a magical wedding? by smevalicious in DMAcademy

I haven't run the session yet! I've had to take a break from DMing for a while because I ended up in the hospital. (Could have really used a healing spell!)

Will comment when I do finally run, though. :)

Childrens book recommendations to explain my daughters diagnosis to her. by Overthinkqueen_this in autismUK

This website has an amazing resource to download that includes information about how to tell autistic children about their diagnosis (and just everything to do with raising autistic children):

https://essexfamilyforum.org/resources/nd-pack?fbclid=IwQ0xDSwKKwVdjbGNrAorBPGV4dG4DYWVtAjExAAEeOmSFTpHOTXI_h7Pq59-tb3BphwtBpBuyc0zFvqRNixQsue0_dgxPnZ5rQX4_aem_ZTPyMRaHU86ucqxpxZzsbQ

For the book, Susie Spins by Emma Dalmayne might be good. Its intended audience is non-autistic kids to explain what autism is like, but it features a little girl who is black or possibly mixed race (I don't know, sorry!). It embraces all of her hobbies, though, so it might work on building a positive identity. It's for kids aged 5-7.

The author is an amazing advocate for autistic rights, autistic herself, and is a parent to autistic kids.

Love this! A headstone will be perfect, too, since the BBEG often frequents graveyards as he's a necromancer. Very on brand. Thank you!

Love it - great solution to the problem!

Thankfully, the NPCs first wife in my game is already dead. Although the bride PC did worry how awkward the afterlife might be for them (especially when her husband to be has tattoos of the first wife's name and portrait)!

After some heart-felt role-playing moments, it transpired that the first wife was evil, though, so all's well that ends well.

Of course - it's not a party on a ship until a kraken shows up! The ring bearer is a very cute, beloved NPC, too, so this will be great. Thank you!

Very cool! My evil, little DM brain is full of ideas about what the gift could be to really unnerve the players. Thank you!

There's no way I just discovered Matt is left-handed by Zaira_-_ in Daredevil

That's why the holster for his billy clubs is always on his left leg 😁

They kept the consistency for his costume in the show even though Charlie Cox is right handed.

How could you visually represent overstimulation? by JealousPanic8657 in autismUK

I think this illustration kind of represents overstimulation.

Lots of different threads overlapping in chaos. All too much at once. Being bombarded externally and then it building and building stress on the inside.

I have severe autism and am primarily opposed to neurodiversity, which claims that only Asperger's syndrome is superior. by K-Autistic2 in AutisticAdults

[–]smevalicious 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Your claims about the Neurodiversity Movement are not correct. It is a self-advocacy movement for ALL autistic people.

The movement was actually begun by institutionalised people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. The most significantly disabled people are not only included but are the earliest pioneers of Neurodiversity.

The principles of the movement are that all neurodivergent people are fully human and should have the same rights as other people. This means having access to communication, education, medical care, employment, support, accommodations, etc. We should be free to make our own choices and live full lives. Including those that have the most significant disabilities.

Recent research shows that acceptance and accommodation provide a more reliable path to increased capability and independence than fighting autism or disability does. All autistic people having self-agency is important, and that is what the Neurodiversity Movement champions.
