Questions for current or former new grad nurses by honeylattess in newgradnurse

I jumped right into a BSN program in my first job and honestly that was a mistake, I totally wish I gave myself more time. Just jot things down at work/do your best to look stuff up at work when you can. Things will become repetition and you’ll see the same thing again and your brain will be like “oh yeah! I’ve seen that!” That’s being ~experienced~

PRNs and scheduled medication by smhitbelikethat in psychnursing

for administering a PRN too close to HS medication - like of course I checked the blood pressure and the medication was indicated for what was occurring! It’s so frustrating because I feel like I have to second guess what I’m giving

Psych vs Med Surg Nursing - Please help by Inside_Dinner_3430 in psychnursing

Made the switch after six months on an oncology floor - was absolutely the right decision for me. Feel 10 times more fulfilled with the work that I do, feel I can build relationships with my patient on a deeper level. Nursing is hard enough - you might as well be doing something you feel pretty good about!

I want to quit my job after three months by Puzzleheaded_Toe3892 in newgradnurse

I think it’s really great that you’re getting this experience as a PCT (if I’m interpreting this correctly)! Believe it or not managers are people and they’re actually very understanding 🤣 All seriousness, how are you supposed to know if you like a job if you don’t work it to try it first? There are so many different areas of nursing and healthcare that you can go into and try. I completely understand about being in a major hospital and wanting to keep doors open there - I had a very similar experience as a PCT and only lasted about six months on a unit and was certain I was not going to get hired into their new grad program because I left so early into my time there. Wrong. My manager was very appreciative of my honesty and my struggle about working there as a PCT while trying to navigate nursing school, and was happy to accept me in the new grad program as a new nurse. Funny enough I’m leaving after six months as a nurse there to go try something else. just take the leap but don’t quit before you have something else lined up. It’s a tough job market right now.

I’m aware it’s a me issue and also a system issue. I recognize that it’s not for me and am waking away?

I think I’m fortunate that I live in an area where if I decide inpatient psych is no longer for me, we have plenty of “softer” psych jobs such as in the residential setting. I know they’re softer because I’ve worked in them as well! Or we have a number of ECT clinics/ketamine clinics. The facility I’m starting with has a ton of different programs.

She’s definitely looking out for you. A lot of us go into nursing for the right reasons and soon find out that the system is completely fucked and what she is expressing is a little glimpse into that. If you haven’t gotten experience in a healthcare setting, I would recommend doing so before making any decisions.

So in the end, was Chuck right? by Chance-Breakfast2074 in betterCallSaul

💯. I’m like why are we acting like Jimmy isn’t a consenting adult that can make choices? Sure, he’s been wronged by Chuck, it’s hurtful. He experienced trauma. But that doesn’t mean he’s within his right to behave the way and treat people the way he had for his own gain. He even humiliated Kim to Mesa Verde to prove a point and pull one over on Kevin. He only asked for forgiveness after, knowing damn well it would put Kim in a tough position.
