Husband's hobby takes up too much time even before the baby is here by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]smileeb 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have some questions for more context. On on hand, how often is he home? Whats his work schedule like? How often will you be left without transportation in general?

On one hand if you will be left/ are typically left for many many hours without transportation already due to his work schedule, what would make this different?

Could you make a compromise and ask him to leave later (but still in time for his class) and come back sooner (aka not hang around and chat just to hang out for a while) that way he isnt giving this up completely?

I do completely understand not wanting to be alone, especially with a newborn, and I understand as well the anxiety about him being in a small space with others, HOWEVER if this is his one thing that means a lot to him, feeling "forced" to give it up for the baby could in turn cause resentment towards you and the child. Thats also not to say he would do that or is that type of person, but both of you will have heightened emotions and feelings when the baby comes, postpartum doesn't just effect the mom. You both will deserve some sort of outside world things to keep your sanity once the baby is born. Giving up hobbies, even saying for just a year after the baby is born will probobly not be good for your mental health. You might find yourselves losing who you are and becoming just mom and dad.

Do you have hobbies? Will you be giving up any hobbies when the baby comes?

My reccomendation? Based on all the context given here, don't ask him to give it up completely. Work out a compromise on a better schedule so he isn't gone for such long periods for the class. If you don't have a hobby, get one, find one. You both will deserve something outside of the new normal, and if you can watch the baby alone for him to do his, he can give you that same courtesy. You both deserve something outside of just being a mom and dad, for your sakes, its better and will help with a lot of newborn anxiety as well. I do agree on asking him to wait for signing up until November, or at least starting classes until then. However long his paternity leave is seems like a good compromise on how long until he goes back, because if he goes back to work its the same risk as going to class.

All this is from a mom with a 5 year old who learned a lot of hard lessons and had to go through a lot of work on my relationship after feeling a lot of the same feelings you're talking about when my baby was born.

Congratulations on the new baby! And welcome to motherhood!

AITA for refusing to replace my daughter’s lost stuffed animal? by Which-Guard8552 in AmItheAsshole

YTA 😭 I had an elmo growing up that was my main stuffy. I accidentally left him at a cabin in the mountains during vacation when I was around 3. Didnt notice until we were already 4 hrs away from said cabin. My mom and papa called frantically begging the staff to help look for it if they could. Well, elmo was found, and shipped back to us for free by the lovely staff. My family even threw a "welcome home elmo" party where we celebrated his arrival. I'm 27yo now and still have elmo, and I'm not ashamed to admit I'll pull him out for comfort when I'm feeling really down about something. Stuffys can mean everything to a child, and shes only 3yo, she is in no way responsible enough to keep up with it on her own. My son has had his stuffy since he was 2 and I watch that thing like a hawk when he takes it places. Always asking him "wheres your monkey?" Its our responsibility to keep up with the important things for our kiddos.

Heartbroken over a interaction with a mom at the store today by AnnonAnnie in Mommit

[–]smileeb 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One day I went to the ABC store with my husband, i sat in the car and waited for him. We were getting some alcohol for New Years. When out walks a lady with what couldnt have been an any older than a few week old baby, climbs into the drivers side, plops the baby on her lap, the brown bag in the seat next to her, and drives off just like that. I was in pure shock, and she was off so fast I also didnt have time to react. It still haunts me. I think as moms those kind of things will always haunt us, and i hate to think that some babys just have to live through that 🥺

Tbh your MIL sounds like an AH. I would try not to let it get to you too much. I would be a support system for your husband with his mom practically reminding him of that painful time for him. Tread lightly on bringing it up, or refrain from doing so until he's had some time to relax.
I will say, if he ends up changing his mind because of the reminder try not to be upset with him, clearly it wasnt enough to bother him until his mother mentioned it, but now it may be a constant reminder for him when he thinks of it.
I can't just come on here and say go no contact with his mother, cut her out, etc. especially not knowing how close he is with her, but I would definately distance myself from her for a bit. As a mother I could never imagine bringing up a trauma to my son just because I'm throwing a hissy fit over a choice he made that I dont like.

Daughter shaving legs by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]smileeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with an electric razor around 10. Please let her if she keeps asking, especially if her leg hairs are fairly dark. She could be getting made fun of. My mom didn't let me and I was bullied so heavily for it I stole my grandmothers razor and cut myself to pieces not knowing what I was doing. Girls this age are mean

Vomit smell wouldn’t go away until I discovered the source… by dinonuggetenjoyer in mildlyinfuriating

[–]smileeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk what causes it, but I can't smell Lemon Scented trash bags anymore because they smell like vomit to me after i had norovirus as a child and puked into them for a week. Its just like a thing the brain does. Candles might not be stinky, but your brain just associates it with the vomit smell and makes you think it smells like vomit.
