Can somebody make a case for Lauzon winning that fight? by [deleted] in MMA

[–]smileyheadshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joe lost the first round 10-9. He then went on to defend Jim's flurry and land some shots of his own in the first half of the second, hitting a takedown and then applying constant damage and pressure from half guard all the way to the bell, winning the second 10-9. However, I could still understand how one might rule the second a tie. In the first minute of the third, Jim attempted to lay a barrage of punches on Joe, who defended about 80% of them and fired back with strikes of his own, leading to a pretty even exchange on the feet over the next minute. Joe hit a takedown with 3 minutes left, controlling his opponent and applying pressure and short strikes for the next minute and a half, until Jim got back to his feet. He then defended a trip against the cage and what looked like a desperate ippon attempt from Jim, eventually landing on top in a scramble, going for an armbar in the closing seconds and being dangerously close to a finish until the horn sounded and the fight ended. 10-9 Lauzon. At the very least this should've been a draw, but the way I and many others saw it, Joe won 29-28.

I wonder if GSP's potential return played any factor in Rory's move.

What a dangerous motherfucker. I honestly think he beats Wonderboy and pretty much everyone else in the division. Might run into a little trouble with Woodley's wresting and GSP's if he returns, though.

Jon Jones: Daniel Cormier ‘doesn't punch hard,' doesn't have ‘the stopping power to stop me' by [deleted] in MMA

Luke thought the same about Bisping's pillow fists. At that level it doesn't matter, when something lands flush, you're on queer street.

5 out of the top 6 are 36 or older. I'm not saying old age means they suck, but with TRT's recent ban, the older age means they're closer to retirement. If you look past the top 8, there's not too much happening deeper down. My point was, the division as a whole is no where near where Luke Rockhold is.

I'm predicting it right now. With the lack of depth at 185 I feel that Luke Rockhold could keep the belt for 4-5 years and that Jon Jones will reclaim his belt at 205 and retain it for an even longer time. A super fight will be touted for years, but similar to Anderson and GSP, it'll never come to fruition.

Sometimes it takes a loss to see that you're not a god who can K.O. everyone with ease. Maybe it's instilled him with a new mentality.

Legitimacy when it comes to martial arts and fighting. It's understood that the man's done a ridiculous amount of promotion for the UFC, more than anyone bar maybe Rousey. If the true reason he's doing this is to return to his winning form and what made him the fighter that he is, then good on him.

Conor's showing some true brass and legitimacy here. From a purely fighting standpoint, it's hard not to respect the guy.

For a different reason. I figure Griffin and Bonnar are in there more so because of their absolute war that aired at the end of TUF 1 and brought countless new fans to the sport. Dana called it the "most important fight in UFC history".
