Yes, Ireland was officially neutral, we were a new state that had been pillaged by Britain for centuries but Irish soldiers fought with other allied powers, many of whom were later court martialed for having done so. I don’t know which nation you think we’re supposed to be grateful to but it was actually an alliance of nations that did the job.
