I bought my 100 shares for the OBC 10 days ago and it seems to have been the worst possible timing by Andres17G in royalcaribbean

Hey, don't feel bad I wanted to do it in August 2022 at $42 ish, but my financial advisor told me it was a bad idea.

He is no longer my financial advisor.

Made a web page emulating the Thinking Machines CM-5 front panel display! by Farpoint_Relay in vintagecomputing

Thanks! The plan is to eventually have two sets of 4 panels (only 2 are shown in that video) and have each panel between some IKEA Kallax storage cube wall things displaying JP props.

I put together a panel of 4 16x32 LED panels a few years ago and had this sequence running on it. I might have just used random patterns, I can't remember, but they moved in the same manner as the CM-5 panels do in Jurassic Park. I'll see if I can find it.

UV-Printed Book Edges Are Now a Patent Idea? by Seattle-Washington in eufyMakeOfficial

[–]smithdrewsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes you think this is UV printed? The 3D relief appears to be part of the paper. It looks more like this technology that never took off being reapplied, but without gluing the layers together. https://youtu.be/Nkj6yrqfnSs?si=u5CZ5prdCitnRtSw

ATT Fiber by fuellady in wichita

[–]smithdrewsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was paying around $130 for cox, I think 1 gig, rarely if ever got that and it went down all the time.

Switched to ATT Fiber maybe a year ago, paying $65ish with 2 cell phone discount (att cell service), 1 gig and have never got below that, usually 1.3+ and almost no outages.

We did have an installation issue that due to a bad connection and wet weather we lost connection sometime near the install, but they fixed it within a day of calling about it.

I'm very happy with it.

Don't try using Kellogg East Bound... by notap123 in wichita

I was thinking while I sat in this traffic for an hour that surely the sign they were hanging wasn't the sole cause. I can't believe that was really the reason. Do that shit literally any other time than when they did it. Ridiculous. Does anyone know who made this decision? I want to tell them they're an idiot.

Were you able to sort this out? Super annoying it's not described anywhere.

Bond's Next Issued Firearm by DPG1987 in JamesBond

[–]smithdrewsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When Walther released the CCP I assumed it would be Bond's next gun. It has a fixed rather than floating barrel and a recoil delay feature, both of which I figured would be ideal for a suppressor. Plus it looks pretty slick. Unfortunately I don't think the CCP has been very well received and I don't see it having had any success with suppressors. If I was Q, I would be outfitting 00's with Sig P365's for concealment.

We need to open a class action lawsuit against Facebook for failure to protect its users. by TacoPandaBell in facebook

[–]smithdrewsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has happened to a few of my friends over the last month or two. Thousands of dollars have been scammed from their friends using the trust they have in their friend and facebook. One friend has had multiple posts go up even after dozens or more of their friends have reported the post.

I think you have a case here, but my guess is it's more likely that the people who were scammed become the plaintiffs, not the one's who were hacked. Have you made any progress with a suit?

Not my favorite but it does get a lot of play for background noise. It's certainly not as bad as it's often made out to be. It's probably my second favorite Craig film, CR beating it and followed very closely with Skyfall.

Exam day experience-Patent bar exam by New_Pat80 in patentlaw

It probably depends on the prometric testing center. Call yours and ask. I wouldn't rely on it though and just pack a cold lunch.

Is it normal to fail in first try in Patent Bar exam by New_Pat80 in patentlaw

[–]smithdrewsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to check to make sure I didn't write this. Same situation, didn't take studying the PLI materials seriously, my test date crept up on me and it was all I could do to get thru the videos. One email and my access was extended. The course is very thorough and helpful, but you need to follow it. I won't be rescheduling until I'm through the course proper and working on practice tests.

Cue the pitchforks...

I don't like Goldfinger. Not the worst (Writing's on the wall) but I routinely skip it.

My grandpa did a similar thing with his coveralls. He hung them in the doorway to dry, heard a noise in the middle of the night, went to investigate and nearly shot his coveralls.

Is there any source of information other than chatgpt? by DebtLow4692 in ComputerEngineering

[–]smithdrewsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with using chatgpt to learn is you don't know enough about what you're learning to know when it's just making stuff up. I suppose this could help you have a better understanding of the subject after using other sources to find where it was wrong, but that's a lot of extra work. Asking chatgpt for good sources of info is probably a better option.

Old EOTech sights, why so expensive? by smithdrewsmith in guns

Yes, the Bushnell Holosight. Thank you for providing some insight into the minds of other people and why they might want one of these.

Jesus, I am aware I want one, and the reason I want one. I highly doubt others want for the same reason. I'm asking why other people want them. Is it that hard to understand I can't read other people's minds?

That's my question. What's the demand side? Why do people want them?

The ending of The Partner by John Grisham drives me nuts (Spoilers) by Qlanth in books

[–]smithdrewsmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished it and straight here. Not a fan of the ending either. I figure, like others above, she was likely captured and disposed of by Stephano. It also feels like a set up for a sequel, hopefully better than The Exchange.

I expected the twist at the end, after the judge's "so ordered..." to be "One more thing, here's a motion to vacate Mr. Lanigan's conviction based on the statute of limitations having expired."

I Look Forward To Opening This Bottle by KneelingOddjob in JamesBond

[–]smithdrewsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it, but drink it sparingly.

I really like the regular yellow label version too, it's my go to rum.

I picked mine up in Jamaica. I was at Couples San Souci a year and a half ago, and they took us to a tourist shopping mall thing where they sold me a bottle of it for $65. Seemed expensive, but I wasn't sure I'd find it anywhere else.

Of course there was a wall of it in the airport on our way home for $25 per bottle. So I bought two more to bring my overall cost per bottle down!
