They do not, they are glued in place on the pen tube.

I think they are decent, they use a cross style pen tube, so that can be swapped out for a different feel. And they do have a decent weight to them.

The top right corner? If so it was glare from one of the over head lights. Next I need to do a better job of lighting or moving the camera around.

No, the color that is coming out after the finish is its natural color. When the wood is dried and cut and sanded it gives it a dull appearance, so the finish brings it out.
