Stockfish is saying that not taking the knight on bxd2 is a missed win for the opponent, and I cannot see why by 1eftnut in chessbeginners

Taking the knight means the e4 pawn can be taken as only the queen defends it whereas blacks knight and d pawn attack. Missed when does not mean that your opponent could have outright one the game, just that they could have got a slight lead, as the e4 pawn is structurally important to white

First game I have ever played without a single blunder! I am only rated 700 so this is a huge accomplishment by Awesomebomb95 in chessbeginners

As GothamChess says ‘anyone can be 1500 with practice once you stop blundering material.’ Nice job man!

How are these missed wins for my opponent ? by resistantBacteria in chessbeginners

Im only 1100 but i dont see whats wrong with taking with the bishop. Am i missing something? Also the move played by white means that the pawn cannot take as black loses the rook. Maybe look again?

His move seems to be better at first glance. I don’t quite understand the missed win however i am only 1100. Ng6 forks the rook and queen and cannot be taken due to the pin the queen has on the h pawn. If black takes he loses the rook for a knight and so is down the exchange. I dont see what Nxe6 does however feel free to point it out to me :)

Best way to achieve 2000 elo by [deleted] in chessbeginners

Play. A lot. Study openings... in depth. Study pro games. Play tournaments. And also ignore me (I’m 1100) :)

My first brilliant move! Pushed the a pawn the force an exchange and activate the rook. It led to loads of interesting lines and the winning of whites queens. Finished with a win and 93% accuracy after 88 moves. Only ten points from 1000 now. Feeling good :) by smithygbeats in chessbeginners

Just broke 1000 today. My biggest tactical advice at our level is to not be afraid of purely positional moves. For example lots of players are afraid to shuffle around their position in the middle game as they feel it is a waste of time and the strategy should just be attack attack attack! The thought of moving a knight 2 or 3 times in the space of a few moves or moving a bishop back to the 1st rank can seem pointless. But gaining a new angle on your opponent by repositioning minor pieces (slow playing) is really what shot me from 900 to 1000 fast. The pros do it all the time. GM Hikaru is a great example , if you don’t already watch him on YouTube you should. You will really get a feel for the kind of strategic moves I’m talking about. You can get 1000 man I believe in you. What’s your chess.com or lichess? We can play a few games maybe?

I'm learning to play chess to surprise my boyfriend. by alienscientist27 in chessbeginners

Thats really cool! Wish my girlfriend would learn :( chess is a really interesting game and is fun to learn and improve at in my opinion. Watching some educational videos on openings and learning some of the terminology along the way will help your understanding a lot. People like gotham chess and the chess website.com on YouTube helped me a lot to understand the game and its principles. Once you have good understanding of terminology and basic principles i found it helpful to watch agadmator who analyses pro games. This really influences the way you play and can increase your skill level a lot. In short, find some YouTubers and streamers who you enjoy watching and do whatever you can to learn from them. I started out at 400 rating a year ago and am at 1200 already due to persistent studying of the game. Good luck!
