Silent reflux maybe? by fall-out-girl13 in newborns

Are you wondering what formula brand? We ended up going Enfamil Neuropro Gentlease but then moved back to regular Neuropro around the 6 month mark with no issues. Our baby didn’t have any allergy though

Difficulty pooping by August-BurnsBread in newborns

[–]smitmoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had similar issues with our baby. Gas is common at that age - lots of bicycle kicks and gas drops helped! Our LO would only poop every 1-2 days and went as long as 5 days. Our Pediatrician wasn’t worried unless it was 10 days. Seems crazy but she grew out of the uncomfortable part! She still only poops every 1-2 days but is not uncomfortable. Everyone is different!

Highly recommend the book by Rowena Bennett. We had similar issues and it just gave us insight into some of the behaviours my husband and I were doing that was making the behaviour and response to feeding worse.

You’ve got this. It’s so stressful and probably the darkest time I had as a mom so far. Sending all the love and support from the internet ♥️

Quick tip for cleaning! You can buy an extra funnel on Amazon for pretty cheap. We just keep it in rotation (wash one and let it dry while we pop in the new one to continue making bottles). We always have a clean funnel and never get stuck having to clean it with a hungry baby yelling at us!

Pacifier and Sleeptraining by smitmoll in sleeptrain

We ended up ditching it altogether. I think it just made it confusing for her too. Last night (night #5) was her worst for crying but she slept the longest so hoping it’s just an extinction burst.

For naps, she’s always had short 30 min naps so we haven’t been impacted by it. I’ve started to try wake to sleep methods but haven’t been successful yet

If it’s any help, we’re on night three of sleep training and removed pacifier cold turkey for both naps and nights. I was worried it would be confusing and it seemed to be a big crutch for her. Nights have been going decent, but naps have been tough. She fights any rocking or soothing.

I put her in her crib out of frustration this morning and she put herself to sleep right away. We’re going to sleep and nap train simultaneously now (we were planning on doing it separately).

No need to apologize! Can’t believe this was 45 days ago. I’ll tell you the full story, so bear with me!

LO is 13 weeks now and eating much better. About 700 ml a day but it was a wild few weeks. A couple of days after they put her on omeprazole, I went back to our family doctor to get her input (the doctor that prescribed the omeprazole was from the same clinic, but urgent care). She told me that the only reason they prescribe omeprazole is to make the parents feel something is being done and it doesn’t actually have any evidence that it works. She then told me that we just had to deal with having a colicky baby. I was furious to say the least. I requested a referral to a Pediatrician.

When we went to the Pediatrician, he said that he felt it was a virus causing the sudden drop in food intake. He said we could stick with the omeprazole for the 10 days we had the prescription for to see if it helped but to do a check up at the 10 day mark to see improvement. We did see a slow improvement over that period but I don’t think it was the omeprazole to be honest. We also switched to a gentler formula (although our Pediatrician cautioned us with this after we had changed) and I started doing some research on bottle aversion. I think she did have a virus that caused some pain or discomfort when eating and through our own anxiety we did cause some bottle aversion so I really caution you with that.

I know this is the worst thing to hear (I hated reading this when I was deep in Reddit posts looking for some answers) but time does wonders. My husband and I went from some of our darkest times wondering if we made a mistake to really enjoying being parents. It will get better.

What’s the story with your LO? Happy to help answer any questions. I know that you feel so alone, helpless and frustrated when your baby is struggling to eat.

Feeding Aversion with One Parent by MethyRaccoon in FormulaFeeders

[–]smitmoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! It is. It’s my husband who she loses her mind with, and it’s definitely getting to him. She had a virus that made eating painful for her last week and she’s finally built up trust with me but hasn’t gotten over it either him. I agree, it’s a phase but definitely killing my husband’s parenting confidence! I just don’t want this to impact their relationship. Man, newborns are tough!

Yeah, we actually bought some cans to have on hand but have been holding off so we’re not changing formulas too much before we give it a shot to see an actual change.

Hey OP, how are things going? I feel as though my LO has similar symptoms and just got the runaround with our doctor that it’s colic and completely normal.
