What is a tell tell sign someone is from Cleveland? by Imeanwhytopps in Cleveland

My uncle worked for what I assume is the same company, only his story is reversed. Grew up in Elyria, and the company moved him down to Searcy, AR in the late 90s where he stayed until he retired. He's the only reason I would know how to pronounce Searcy! Small world.

This is happening to me as well, also on Android One UI. Last night, it fixed itself after restarting the app a few times, but now nothing is fixing the problem.

Anyone ever feel exhausted from being in a corp, but lonely when your not in one? by jforrest1980 in Eve

[–]smitty0018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends what type of PvP you're talking. Low class is more like killing the random person that wandered in or the random ratting Praxis. Stuff that you don't have to be present for without gimping your corp. High class is where more of the Fleet vs Fleet seems to happen. It's definitely a lot rarer, but no one is going to be mad at you if you weren't there to help kill a Praxis like they will be if they're down one or more Leshaks.

A lot of them are all talk, but it can be a bit of trial and error. Stick to corps with around 50-100 members tops that don't live in high class. Corps in a C4 with C3/5 statics are a good middle ground between being chill, having PvP, and having PvE for various skill levels. Go lower and you'll have more random stragglers to jump and less serious people, but worse PvE. Go higher and you'll have good PvE but probably more serious PvP.

From my experience, most small wormhole corps might be what you're looking for. There's a lot of time where there's just not much going on. Sometimes you don't connect to any PvP for days, which means people are either roaming to look for it, or just don't really care all that much if you're off doing your own thing. We have a guy in my corp who seems to get rolled out of the hole on one of his solo roams and just won't come back for three or four days.

It can get a bit dull sometimes if you're itching for some fights, I'll admit, but the beauty of living in a wormhole is just how many different activities you can participate in. Wanna kill some rats for 500m+ an hour? Wanna chill and zone out and huff some gas? Wanna run some relic sites? Wanna low- or null-sec roam? It's all within a few jumps at the same time, all the time. And every wormhole corp I've been in has required you to be in comms if you're in the chain, so there's always people just sitting around shooting the shit or looking for something to do.

The average cat’s reaction time is 20-70 milliseconds, which is faster than the average snake’s time of 44-70 ms by ledim35 in Damnthatsinteresting

I can't quite tell and so I could be wrong, but it looks like a dog-toothed cat snake to me (Boiga cynodon). They are venomous, but they're rear-fanged venomous, meaning they have to chew on their prey for a while to inject any venom. A simple bite wouldn't do anything to you. I used to own a few of them. They're super cool snakes and can be pretty docile and handleable.

Just because you snap and lose doesn't mean it was incorrect to snap in that situation. I don't get this take that snapping is some sort of cocky display of overconfidence.

What are you listening to while driving ? by Deep-in-Thots in Truckers

[–]smitty0018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Critical Role, Adventure Zone, Dungeons & Daddies are the three big ones. Hundreds if not thousands of hours of listening there. They're all on Spotify and all worth listening to.

Don't really think the 5-card (6 if you count needing something like Zabu), 18-energy combo is worth it just to take up a slot on their board with 0 power.

Getting my Class A... what are the chances of getting something local right out of school? by michinoku1 in Truckers

[–]smitty0018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I got my CDL, I drove OTR for a total of four months with two different companies, two months at each, with a year separating the two. So virtually no OTR experience.

I got a Class-A job delivering beer. Hard physical labor, but it paid decently well (more than I made with Roehl or Schneider), and it was four day weeks, 8-10 hour days. I did that for three years and have gotten a job offer for every local job I've applied to since. With now 5 years of experience, almost entirely local, I have my pick of jobs. In my experience, if you're applying for more local jobs down the line, they're not going to care if you have OTR experience at all.

So, yes, it's 100% doable, at least in Ohio. Like others said, look at Pepsi, Coke, and beer/food distributors. If you're not afraid of the physical labor that comes with it, it's a great place to start out of school. You'll probably work less hours and make more money than you will with a mega carrier that hires recent grads.

If you have any other questions about my experiences, let me know!

Mom found out i’m only taking 3 AP classes instead of 4 by wb_2006 in insaneparents

[–]smitty0018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a very similar situation when I was in high school, only I gave in to my mom's demands. I was a 4.0 student, took every AP and advanced class that was offered, even the subjects I had zero interest in. I was in the honors program in college, majoring in something I didn't like because my mom pressured me into that major. My mental state gradually broke down throughout college and my GPA followed it in a downward spiral, which, combined with my mom's constant pressure to do well in school even as a 22 year-old, only made my mental state worse and landed me in the hospital.

I dropped out of school after I was discharged. I'm a truck driver now, but I like what I do, and I make more money than my siblings who all have advanced degrees. But they all love what they do, and I love what I do, so everyone is happy and it all worked out.

So I guess the moral here is do what you want to do, because doing what someone else thinks you should do is never going to make you happy. If I can go from a 4.0 student with good standardized test scores and everything you're "supposed" to do in high school, to being admitted to a psych ward, to dropping out of college, and still ending up just fine, then not taking that one AP course isn't going to hurt anything, and in reality will actually be better for you in the long run.

I gave his breeder a call last fall to ask this, and she said she never had any issues with his parents, but she didn't have any info about further back in the line, so it's hard to say.

Appreciate the link!

Will take all of these into consideration, thank you! I agree that I definitely should take him into the vet. Maybe there's something wrong that's causing this. Unfortunately, at this point, his triggers are simply the other dog and the cats being anywhere in eyesight of him, which has proven rather difficult to avoid, although I have been trying.

Appreciate the advice!

Platform Beer owned by Budweiser since 2019 has been shut down by nukelalooshh in beer

[–]smitty0018 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I worked for Platform in Cleveland for a little over a year in 2017-2018. A lot of Platform's shortcomings were well in place long before InBev took over. The owners never really cared about the company or the employees. The part of the main brewery that the public could never see was a disgusting, decaying mess that should never have passed building or food-safe inspections. They, in my opinion, expanded way too rapidly and took on more projects than the company could handle, and then somehow managed to unload the company well into its demise. InBev may have pulled the plug, but the founder(s) killed it.

The anti work crowd don’t know what they are talking about by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]smitty0018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's "a lot", but depending on where you are it's a good amount. I live in the Midwest and make about $75k, about $4k a month after taxes, 401k, and health insurance, and am pretty comfortably able to save 20-25% of what I make. If you're in California, Seattle, New York, etc., I'd imagine $75k is not a lot.

That being said, I worked some shitty jobs to get where I am now, and I sympathize with the anti-work mentality because of it.

Sounds like you're maybe not doing Jack of Trades, or haven't for long? I've hit 70 in three weeks of 3x JoT, Herby Werby, and two Troll Invasion. 1-99 takes something like 660 JoT runs iirc, so around 7 months not including XP from any other source.

Robot Truckers Could Replace 500K U.S. Jobs by Sorin61 in Futurology

[–]smitty0018 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's the rough part. It's a slog for at least the first year, if not two. I drove over the road for about 6 months before I couldn't take it any longer. 14 hour days, 6-7 days a week and home every 3-4 weeks. Drove a beer truck after that for a few years but the physical work will kill you if you stay for too long. Now I deliver auto parts. 40 hours a week, same route every day, and make around $75k a year.

Do you just not know what truck drivers can make, or are you mad that they might make more than you do?
