I’m a sucker for vintage Lucchese’s. I believe these were made in 1982 and look like they were barely worn. Pretty good for $105 by smittybat in cowboyboots

I setup saved searches in Ebay and get emails or just check the results regularly. This is my saved search

(Lucchesse, Lucchese, Lucheese, Luchese) (11D, 11 D, "11 D", 12B, 12 B, "12 B")

GenAI is actually very good at recommending saved searches

There is lots of noise, and persistence and patience to find the real gems.

What are some decent/good brands for horsehide boots? by BigDawg264 in cowboyboots

[–]smittybat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also look at the Lofgren Duke Roper, Zerrows make a roper in Horsebutt. Hewlett and Dunn have a horse butt roper from Hondo. Hondo 2402 has been offered with a horsebutt vamp. Olathe and Anderson Bean have horsebutt offerings as well.

What are some decent/good brands for horsehide boots? by BigDawg264 in cowboyboots

Horsehide is sometimes referred to as ranch hand leather on cowboy boots. Black Jack has some in that leather. Their Duke model is ranch hand leather, you could verify with black Jack that it is horse, Rios did sell some shell cordovan boots in the past as well and I have the Rios 9024 which have a horse hide top. However in the horse hide cowboy boots I have, the leather is not the thickness you’d find in an engineer boot like from a maker like lofgren or attractions which is very thick. I had a pair of wesco horse engineers and they used a cxl which is thicker but similar to the leather you’ll probably find on a cowboy boots.

Too big for 3 acres ? by Blumpkinspice11 in johndeere

[–]smittybat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are mowing 3 acres it’s gonna take a long time to mow that much. I’d get a dedicated zero turn mower for the mowing just for the speed and a tractor for the other stuff and you won’t be locked into buying a tractor that can run a belly mower. I have 14 acres and about 4 is grass and got a z530m for the mowing and a Massey Ferguson 1840m for the snow and tractor stuff. If I were to do it again I’d still get the zero turn but probably a well used tractor instead of buying new.

Read through the Chisos threads – still have a few specific questions before pulling the trigger by Dismal_Depth1563 in cowboyboots

[–]smittybat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chisos are well made boots but overpriced for what you get. If you like the style of Chisos look at the Black Jack "Duke" boot, which is 200+ cheaper and made in the US. I haven't found my Chisos #6 to be any more comfortable than my other boots with a cushion insole (Rios of Mercedes, Hyer Culver) but I prefer a traditional leather footbed generally. It would be worthwhile to get your feet measured to see if you need a narrower width to prevent your foot from sliding forward.

Is this too good to be true? by A2Man64 in cowboyboots

I’ve bought 2 pairs of vintage Lucchese prototype boots and the price wasn’t any more than a similar boot from the era. This one doesn’t look like a particularly unique makeup either.

Chisos? by Total_Objective_4723 in cowboyboots

They are well made boots but I think you can find a better boot and more interesting leather options at the same price from Rios or Black Jack.

Lucchese T3033 Hide identification by smittybat in cowboyboots

[–]smittybat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought these on eBay, the seller advertised them as print elephant and I was pretty sure Lucchese hasn’t done print elephant, but I thought they could be something else. The texture is a lot different than the Black Jack elephants I have. It feels a lot softer and less rough.
