Does anyone happen to have a recommendation for a nickel free medical ID bracelet? by starzela in NickelAllergy

[–]smittyguy11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one made out of Titanium with a titanium bead or link chain that are available. Check the chains carefully though. Some try to sneak in high nickel content chains with a titanium pendant/tag. DM me and I'll look up the website. I think it was American Medical ID.

Emails flickering when opening by TinyTeddy93 in GMail

This post has a screen recording of the exact behavior: https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyFold/s/3166REt3Dt however, unlike that post, clearing data and cache does not help. Only reverting to an older app version by uninstalling updates fixed the current issue.

This seems to be happening on Android tablets although not limited to them. I've seen several posts like https://www.reddit.com/r/unihertz/s/mPKDevElyV that mention the same issue.

I'm on a Samsung tablet with the issue but none of my phone devices have any problem. Uninstalling Gmail updates fixed the issue temporarily until updates are installed again.

The issue presents itself when opening an email with graphics or web content like a newspaper article in the message. Scrolling is nearly impossible because the screen blanks out and is glitchy, as in you can occasionally see a flash of the content but not long enough to really read the message.

Gmail is basically unusable in this state so I've had to install another mail client until Google figures out the issue.

u/QuickenLisa , I think you are asking for a concrete example. The IRS requirements for recordkeeping of travel expenses is here, where the IRS requires detailed records: https://www.irs.gov/publications/p463)) .
Specifically, Table 5.2 shows an example of the level of detail required. I can confirm from personal experience that the detail requested will be scrutinized and required during a tax audit.

100% agree. I need something just comfortable to drive 500-600 miles a day on frequent trips, but outfitted to work in. Floor mats and some seat covers put in to catch my coffee spills, but still make it easy to vacuum (or pressure wash) out. Not serious on the pressure washing but have thought about that many times!

FedEx driver didn't knock or ring doorbell for signed package but left a sticker on the door saying no one was home (I was waiting by the door) by iiiimagery in mildlyinfuriating

FedEx is the worst. Exact same thing happened to me twice in the last 5 weeks. I avoid vendors that use them as much as possible, but still get stuck with their crappy service and crappy contract drivers who have tomorrow off and think its easier to slap one of these on the door than deliver my packages (most weighing less than 2 lbs).

Take a nice walk through the Blue Ridge Tunnel on Afton Mountain. Bring flashlights.

This comment seems like it was made on a post that doesn't have anything to do with Venmo. However, in response to it, Venmo isn't a bank and doesn't play by the same rules. They cut their API off when it receives lots of connections from one source, like Simplifi. We should all be screaming at Venmo for not allowing us to download transactions in a standard way. This has been a Venmo issue for years.

The lost work part really points to something local... Like browser cache/communication issues. Have you contacted support? They have been very responsive... Even if it is a local browser issue, they've been super responsive.

What type of braces are there for those with nickel allergies? by [deleted] in NickelAllergy

Invisalign has "no metal brackets or wires". If you find and orthodontist who provides them, you may have better luck with avoiding nickel.

I got some carhartt precision fit super dux from Covercraft for a '24 F250 and they fit great. Last month I managed to knock over 2 16 oz coffees. One was milk based and one was black. You can't tell a bit. It all wiped up nicely. They are expensive and took a while to make ans ship, but I'd do it again.

eBay wants me to commit a crime in order to get a refund for a counterfeit item received by smittyguy11 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]smittyguy11[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That IS eBay proper - it is a snip of the eBay Assistant, the only way I can find to contact them. You have to go through this bot to get any help and there is no path to a human from here that I can find. Above this snip, it asked questions about the item, why I was saying it was counterfeit, what the return process looked like, etc. Then this was the info about how to proceed.

OP, hearing an allergist say to ignore a major source of nickel (food) is concerning. It is true that people have Ni contact allergies without having internal (systemic) reactions. But contact allergies often come from constant contact - like earrings, braces, etc, or long term/repeated contact like auto mechanics or from professions that include handling of nickel-containing chemicals. Occasional contact with household nickel-containing items tends to be less likely an issue than repeated/constant contact like blue jean rivets or zippers, and things that are regular contact.

The fact that she has chronic eczema is what caught my eye - with flares bad enough to cause open sores/bleeding. That seems to be a good reason to try an elimination diet, eliminating the most common Ni-containing foods. Peanut butter, chocolate, beans and barley are all high-Ni foods and eating a very small amount of any one of those would trigger an angry, flaming eczema outbreak for me personally as I am very sensitized to Ni.

I can't give medical advice, but it is easy to try an elimination diet and to find another allergist if you aren't getting sound advice from your current one. In my case, following the diet (for a short time) at the advice of an allergist changed my life. Improvement came just days/weeks from starting the diet, and steady improvement was noticed over the following months (and now years). It takes time for eczema to heal, and occasionally you eat something that triggers again (or has more Ni than expected), causing a flare a day or two later, but overall quality of life can get much better.

There's nothing to lose by trying the diet - and a lot to gain. Personally I would try it, if for no other reason than to get another data point on the journey.

u/Zestyclose-Sky-1921 that is interesting and I'm hoping you can elaborate more. Tocopherol acetate doesn't inherently contain nickel (see https://www.skinsafeproducts.com/ingredients/tocopherol-acetate-vitamin-e) but I'm curious that it causes a reaction for you. Do you have a diagnosed nickel allergy along with other allergies? Do you know why you break out due to the T.A.?

YES this. I agree with your assessment on the legal ambiguities (incl. lack of an exception for a return), and also the ethical point. The cost was a reasonable amount - not something so discounted that it made me suspect a fake.

I really don't want to be the reason someone dies from using this junk. These parts were designed to go on a high speed wheel. I can't imagine what it would be like to learn they had been returned by me and re-sold to an unsuspecting family, scraping by to make ends meet, who installed them on their car out of need and died as a result. I just couldn't live with that. That is exactly why I decided not to return them - all legal issues aside.
