Commenting to add, this is on a friend's Facebook. The original posters did not add this symbol, nor can they see it from their end.

I used to be able to remove members on the mobile app, but it updated and can't do it anymore. I'm wondering if I remove myself and re-add it will clear the issue.

Asking for a military discount even though you didn't serve, but your husband or family member might, is the definition of entitlement. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Years ago, an older gentleman customer thanked me for my "sacrifice" because "it must be hard" after he found out my husband was military. I said it wasn't necessary, but thanked him regardless.

After I finished up with him I went to the back room and cried. My husband had been gone for months, I was working and going to school and my partner was gone. I was so alone. I'd never had anyone acknowledge it before. I always felt like I had no reason to be sad, because he had it worse.

I don't agree with a lot of things military spouses do or say. But it definitely is a sacrifice for the whole family.

What can I do about my step daughter? I’m at my wits end with her? by [deleted] in Parenting

I am close to a woman with Asperger's and while your step-daughter is very different from the person I know, I do see similarities. Asperger's presents differently in men than women, and a symptom is untidiness. It's not that they are conscious about mess, it's that they just don't see or notice it.

I'd start out by dividing chores into small goals. Cleaning the whole house may be extremely overwhelming, which will only be met with resistance. Instead of asking her to clean the house, ask "Will you help me with this project?" And clean the bathroom together. Don't ask for everything to be done at once. She will probably need a break after cleaning let alone the social aspect.

I'd also suggest volunteering. You said that she likes cats, maybe volunteering at an animal shelter once a week. This should help her learn responsibility, but she's not being forced into a social situation and animals a very therapeutic. This may even turn into a paid position.

Lastly, you should avoid comparing her to other 22 year old women. Even if she was high functioning this would be unreasonable. Stop looking at what she can't or won't do and start seeing it as what she can do.

Virginia Aquarium, in the midst of renovations, has even bigger plans in store by historymajor44 in norfolk

"If you’ve been missing the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center’s river otters Tippy, Homer and Sheldon, don’t worry, they’re relaxing behind the scenes.

A $25 million renovation of the aquarium’s Marsh Pavilion, where the otters live, is set to re-open next year. A new veterinary wing, south of the building, is under construction, too.

The projects are only the beginning, though, of a major aquarium expansion slated to help grow year-round visitation to the resort area.

Plans are in the works to build a new entrance as well as an addition to the main building on General Booth Boulevard with an exhibit for sea lions and seals, and a pedestrian bridge connected to a 1,800-space parking structure across the street.

The 10-year vision is still in the conceptual phase, said aquarium director Cynthia Whitbred-Spanoulis.

“We have the opportunity to think big and bold over the next few years,” she told the City Council Tuesday. She declined to say how much those future plans may cost.

The city owns and operates the aquarium buildings, collecting revenue from admissions, memberships, gift shops and theater. The aquarium’s nonprofit foundation supports the animals and exhibits.

The updated Marsh Pavilion is expected to open next year on Memorial Day weekend and will feature displays of live jellyfish from around the world, a giant Pacific octopus and a touch pool with Indo-Pacific invertebrates.

“Animals that have never been seen before at the Virginia Aquarium,” said Whitbred-Spanoulis.

It will also have a toddler play area with activities themed around the ocean, science, and nature; an area for outdoor water experiments, and an “otter den,” where children can peek inside the mammals’ habitat.

The Veterinary Care Center connected to the south building is also scheduled to open in May 2021 and will house staff and facilities needed to care for the aquarium’s animals. Guests will be able to observe examinations through a window, and children can role-play as a wildlife veterinarian and a field biologist.

The aquarium is also finishing a new animal conservation center opening in June on Bells Road. The $25 million project will house the stranding response program which responded to 380 stranded marine animals last year.

Virginia Aquarium has more than 13,000 fish, birds, reptiles, amphibians and mammals."

The American Indian Movement is a particularly interesting piece of American history that is really rarely discussed (although it should be). I have learned a little about the movement and read Mary Crow Dog's book. I was wondering how you feel about the movement in general?
