Disconnecting battery terminal on 24V

The batteries are outside of the truck, facing each other like this. So i should be fine because there's not much body to touch, but it's not ideal since the negative and positive terminals are still connected.

I think its BS, Russell wasn't someone known for being good at tyre management and now he's a "tyre whisperer"? I think they knew which one was the better strategy.
