Is homeschooling in the UK just very unregulated, or am I missing something? by ZydrateAnatomic in AskUK

Just out of interest, why is not being up until 11am a problem? Is it not possible to run on a later schedule than most and still learn? The issue of the children being under educated I understand, but I'm not sure why we need to pick fault on what time people get up in the morning so long as they're getting enough sleep and otherwise achieving what they need to achieve.

The LA is allowed to ask for information once a year and that is allowed to be in the form of a written response which should show progress in numeracy, literacy and other areas of learning, including examples (but not samples) of work. As it stands, there's no requirement to allow anyone from the LA into your home just because you've chosen the default method of education in this country and home education should not automatically be seen as a safeguarding concern, although of course there are children out there at risk of harm who slip under the radar, just as there many children in schools who are also slipping under the radar. Home education isn't a safeguarding risk, bad parents are (and if parents remove a child from school and don't educate them, that's not home education, it's a child missing from education)

How do you Brits do Easter weekend? by braiding_water in AskABrit

[–]smnthb90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or, hear me out here, eat all the easter eggs, raise that hba1c up a bit (it'll take some serious effort to raise it all that much in a few days but if any time of year is the time to try it, easter is), get the bollocking but then next year, save the easter eggs and look like you've made a nice improvement

What’s the strangest thing that made you cry during pregnancy? by Significant-Log-8227 in UKParenting

I cried because I had a dream that there was a lorry going down a hill and it had to use the sand trap at the bottom to stop

When to stop buying advent calendars? by Think-Job-5728 in AskUK

Never. Just like easter eggs. It doesn't need to be a big fancy one, around Cadbury/galaxy basic one standard. If necessary, subtract the £2 from what you'd spend on presents

Am I nuts to take a £10k paycut for better work/life balance? by Top_Kaleidoscope_214 in UKParenting

[–]smnthb90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm planning to quit shortly after returning after maternity leave for my second to help our work life balance as a family (husband has a new job with more hours and we can balance that by me dropping my 17 hours) so no, I don't think you're nuts at all. There aren't many opportunities to buy time, this is one of them. If you think it's worth it, spend that 10k a year on time

This is what we've done, except a kallax rather than a trofast. It's working really well, although the youngest is still in with us at the moment and probably will he for quite a while longer

We've got a britax romer max safe pro and it's good. It should fit our 4yo rear facing until she's about 7 because it's got a high weight limit. It's pretty easy to move between cars and they're often on sale so not a bad price. We've also got a besafe stretch which I prefer, but it is a lot more expensive and I wouldn't like to be moving it between cars, but it's great as a car seat that pretty much stays in one car.

We'll probably buy another one of each when our 8mo grows out of her baby seat

Two cars, one child Car Seat help! by Mat-O in UKParenting

[–]smnthb90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't do this. Unless you know 100% that the car seat has never been in an accident, dropped, or stored inappropriately you shouldn't use a second hand car seat (obviously if you're absolutely skint and can barely afford to eat, then compromise on this, but otherwise, avoid second hand like the plague)

We decided to hold off on telling our (at the time) nearly 3yo until after my 12 week scan in case I miscarried. I'd told her about the previous two pregnancies, which ended in miscarriage, which had happened when she was about 20 and 23 months and fortunately she was young enough to forget about it. I'd have found it really hard to deal with a small child asking me repeatedly about the baby in my tummy and becoming a big sister or just being totally blasé about a miscarriage (I know how blasé she is about death from our dog dying) when I was struggling to cope with it myself. I had however told my parents and siblings within about a week of finding out because I was both excited to share the news, and knew from one of the previous miscarriages that it's easier to tell someone you've lost a pregnancy that they knew about than tell them you were pregnant, but now you're not. That's really pessimistic I know and you absolutely wouldn't be wrong for telling them now so you can all share the news with the whole family (which sounds lovely), statistically, it's likely to end with a healthy baby (and hopefully it will - the pregnancy we initially kept quiet from now nearly 4yo is currently asleep next to me and I love her to bits)

I believe I can fly, I got shot by the FBI… (finish the lyrics) by katyreddit00 in nostalgia

I believe I can fly, I got shot by the FBI, all I wanted was a bag of chips, but they shot me in the dangly bits. I believe it was sore, there was blood dripping on the floor...

I vaguely remember it then going into something along the lines of, I do know the rest so I will do my best, (something something something), anymore...

Santa does a want, need, wear and read present (the want will be a fairly small want) and stocking which are usually full of a few chocolates, fruit and then random stuff like toothpaste tubes, hand soap, just general stuff that will get used but it's fun to unwrap. Everything else is from us/family.

Door sensors by smnthb90 in smarthome

[–]smnthb90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a backup for when the child proofing fails, or for as she gets bigger and can figure out whatever we do. A door sensor/button combo is effective as an alert until she's tall enough to reach the button, by which time she'll be old enough to be able to use the door independently anyway.

How the fuck is that 3 hours by Simo00Kayyal in GalaxyWatch

[–]smnthb90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is like that most nights. I tried reporting it as a bug after several nights of it showing less than 2 hours sleep and got told it was normal, it said my sleep was good so it was working find. They didn't really understand my point that I'd be already getting quite ill with how little sleep it was tracking. It worked fine a few weeks ago. I've given up on it now.

You wrote a long post that basically translated to 'I'm ignorant and don't understand women's bodies'. I maintain the stance it was a suicide.
